Delixe: Well I got FCOM installed and the game is running fine but I have the big yellow squares of missing meshes... *sigh*
Yecch. Do you have ArchiveInvalidation turned on? (or off, forget which).

Here, maybe this will help, since I assume you know how to put the meshes folder into your DATA directory :D

Yeah it's not that, enabled it in OBMM. Probably an incomplete OMOD.

Sargon: Maybe I will try FCOM then. Do recommend using the old Martigens Monster Mod 3.7b3 Public Release that this version of FCOM was made for or would a newer version of Martigens work just as fine or better?
Well, the last version I've heard of might be the one you mention, so from this one it should be okay, i think.

Runehamster: Gad, now I'm confuzzled. I'd like to redo my entire mod setup but I freely admit I have no idea how you combine all those leveled list entries. With WryeBash, I assume, but I'm not sure I feel like learning how to install Oblivion mods all over again.
Yeah, Wrye Bash is the key. And to combine all the leveled lists, you just have to tick the box "leveled lists" when you rebuild your Bashed Patch and voila! ^_^

Oh, maybe you forgot to rename MMM.bsa into FCOM_Convergence - MMM.bsa. It's a necessary step if you have a "full" FCOM install. Let us know if it did the trick! ;)

Wow, I certainly expected this to be more difficult. The FCOM people have these delightfully idiot-proof installation instructions I found, and what's more, they make sure you know how to install all the mega-packs they use, and apparently they show you what to do with WryeBash and BOSS too. I could kiss them. Thank you to Delixe for the thread and xa_chan for the nudge to actually learn how to do advanced installations :o

Yeah done that. I installed with the new OMOD's this time and it did that automatically. I'm going to try another fresh install as I have everything backed up then manually copy the meshes and textures folders. Had to do that with FWE 5.

Oh so the OMOD script actually worked in your case? Good to know! ^_^ I don't know how many times I tried, but it always failed to rename it properly, I had to do it by hand each time... I'm lucky to be paranoid enough to manually double-check in my data folder each time... :P

You're welcome! And if you ever fall into a "mod-rage" for Oblivion, I cannot suggest you enough to read the following thread, that's now my standard procedure to install my tons of Oblivion mods !! http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1119325-50steps-to-stable-fcom/

I tend to just stick with leveled list and creature/weapon/armor/housing/quest expansions, and not many of those. Now that I'm learning how to use Wrye Bash though, I'll probably start collecting mods ;P

...odd. Wrye Bash won't start. At all.

Bleah, got it. I'm on XP, I had to hand-build a weird special shortcut according to some instructions I found - never had to do that before o.O
Seem to have got it working. The problem was COBL. Removed it this time as it's hardly required.

Here's the mod you're not allowed to miss playing Morrowind....
Well...this is strange. All the chests and barrels in my Oblivion install have turned into giant exclamation marks. Seriously...what the heck? How did I lose DEFAULT VANILLA MESHES?

.... most likely? By installing a texture mod which changes said chests and barrels and miss placing the new textures / meshes....

Shall I repeat why I claimed it to be important, knowing how to do OMODs?

I have no texture mods installed (besides a robe replacer, and I believe that's only/mostly meshes), Siannah, and none that should have changed the path directory for textures or meshes. I also know how to create an OMOD, I have used OBMM before, and used it for some of the mods I installed. I'm also missing the mesh for the bow in the starting dungeon, which means something's gone funny with one of the major mods - WarCry, Fran's, or OOO. I'm perplexed.

EDIT: On a side note, with some of these overhauls and mods installed, does decreasing the texture size mess things up? I usually keep it set on medium.

I thought more of a mod pointing to specific new texture / meshes, but the game can't find them where they should be.

Alright. For a search of "oblivion chest texture" Google comes with a link for OOO 1.31 on Planet Elder Scrolls on the first page. In the comments I read:
"To everyone whos having the magical yellow boxes of doom problem heres how you fix it: download 1.3 it contains all the textures missing from 1.31
it seems this patch is just a sort of addon to the other full mod"
I never played with the big overhauls, so can't really say if that's the case here.

Another potential problem could be load order.

You might want to try FormID Finder to pinpoint which mod is causing it. Again, I don't have experience with it.

If all else fails, standard procedure: try & error. Start deactivating mods and see if the problem persists until you have your culprit.
