Deaderinred: i do believe you are made of legend.
but yeah i would love a winxp/vista version of daggerfall..i own the original cd and i cant stand pissing around trying to get it working in dosbox all the time and i cant be bothered to set up my old win95 machine either..

There are installers out there for XP that set the game up ready to run without the CD.
Try this,

I still have a boxed copy of this!
I'm not a fan though. Chargen is AWESOME, but pretty much everything else is mediocre and buggy beyond belief. In my book, Arena and Morrowind are the games where Bethesda hit the sweet spot between ambition and functionality.
Daggerfall just collapsed under its own weight. It's full of great ideas, and if they were more refined the results could've been excellent (this earns it a place on the tiny list of games I'd actually play a remake of), but they just weren't given the time needed. It's a mess.
It's still worth playing, because it's kind of a captivating mess, with an almost dadaist appeal. There's no other game like it, which gives it value even if only as a curiosity (think JP: Trespasser). I'm just not sure it would pass CD Projekt's requirement of being a 'good' old game.

I disagree. Many consider it to be in the top 10 PC RPG list. And a Mobyrank of 80 is higher than some games already on GOG. Not perfect sure, but definitely a good old game.

Despite all the bugs, crashes and the game playing havoc with my soundcard back in the day, I must of dumped a good portion of my life into this game.
Even just running around the map exploring was good fun, I don't think I even played much of the main quest until a revisit with DOSbox.
Daggerfall was indeed incredibly buggy. Nevertheless I loved it. It had the wonderful feel of Arena but expanded on it significantly. While I definitely enjoyed Morrowind and Oblivion, they certainly lost something I've been unable to define that Arena and Daggerfall had in spades.
I got hit by such a nasty bug that the main quest became unfinishable and I didn't have a save old enough to which I could return. This was not lack of care on my part, but rather a dungeon was generated early in the game (most dungeons in Daggerfall were semi-randomly generated) without a critical plot item and I didn't discover it was missing until near the end. So I actually never finished Daggerfall. But I still remember it very, very fondly and recommend it to anyone who is willing to tolerate potential (and in my case main plot-ending) bugginess.
There were patches released after my playthrough so it's possible that it's more stable than then.

The latest patch fixed most of the big plot bugs, and included a utility to fix your savegames if something like what you encountered happens. In my playthrough, I still see bugs, but no plot-stopping ones. Yet.
So yeah. Buggy. But good ;)

Will be great to see this on GOG. I never played Daggerfall, but it seems a lot interesting.
I still remember Daggerfall and the creepy ( and i mean CREEEEEPY) Dungeonsand the dead King in the Capital of Daggerfall, i just say VEEENNNNGEEEEAAANNNCEE!!
GOG! Please get Daggerfall. That would be awesome.
Daggerfall should be on GOG, hands down.

alexross: Daggerfall would be my number one selection for a game that should be added to GOG.com, anyone else feeling it?

Not only that! But Battlespire and Redguard. I would love for people to have Battlespire, I've been wanting a nice 8player ctf match in it for almost a decade now. :(
Heh, i still remember falling between the walls of the dungeons. Multiple saves were a must in Daggerfall, but those were the days where enemies like the Liches were to be feared, and we had skills like Climbing; now Bethesda TES games with their holding hands style and level scalling have nothing that makes the player afraid and we have axes as blunt weapons.
I doubt some games like Daggerfall will appear at GOG, i just hope GOG can convince most of the developers to release them here.
Ok. Maybe someone has written that already but please people! Dont start a thread for every game you would like to see on GOG! There is Game Wish List thread and you can post there all your suggestions!
This seems to me more like 'TES II: Daggerfall' discusion :D
Heh, statisticaly? Superior to Morrowind AND Oblivion together. But I liked Morrowind more - can't say why, maybe because Morrowind was my first TES - though it doesn't mean I didn't play Daggerfall like hell when it got to my hands :D Lots and lots and lots of great ideas, that were brought to Morrowind later by MODs... And repetitive and repetitive and repetitive 'randomly generated' quests, sadly
