TheCheese33: I would also like to add that my theory also corresponds with some of the replies the staff have given. They've told us that several of us are very close, and some of us may have even hit the mark. What if some of the guesses we've given, like Atari, EA, Activision... what if some of these guesses are but one part in a giant play? MY BRAIN IS ABOUT TO IMPLODE!
avatar
LordCinnamon: I know! But I'm afraid to believe! Please guide me!

Unfortunately, as crazy awesome as my theory is, I still have some doubts myself. If we get another hint that points to a game made by a different publisher, we may have our confirmation.

cogadh: The clue posted on Twitter, not the countdown. Pay attention Wec!
avatar
Weclock: can't twitter at work..

Then allow me to recap for you:
The clue posted this morning on Twitter reads like this:
"The return of incredible karmic awareness."
One of the more compelling arguments is that this is a reference to Troika:
The Return Of Incredible Karmic Awareness.
However, there are issues with that, not the least of which is the possibility that this could mean Activision is coming to GOG. Several people are also taking the "karmic" reference to somehow mean it has something to do with the Ultima games, frankly, I don't get it and it seems like an unreasonable stretch to me.
Last but not least, it appears capfitz may have set himself up to eat a sock casserole, no matter what publisher/dev/game we end up getting on Thursday.

Menelkir: Maybe GOG can release Telengard as an Mp3 file so we old farts can dump it to a cassette and load it up on the Commie.
avatar
MacReiter: Gah! Please, no! Just a .TAP file will be fine, thanks, and I can play it in WinVICE.
avatar
Menelkir: LOAD "*",8,1 is the only way to go!

HAH! Begone, foul impersonator! Any true Commie fan knows that tapes just load with:
LOAD "*"
and that the command YOU gave is for disk drives!

Haha, true, true, i haven't touched a commie in something like 5 years now, godamn those were sexy beasts and i wish i still had mine.
But seriously, i'm hoping this is the announcement for something like Activision/Blizzard or Atari, i would love to see some of their games here.
Game companies have formed alliances under one banner before (The ESA), and we may be seeing a similar movement with this announcement. What does every publisher and developer regret about their game? After a while, they don't make money off a game anymore, either from used sales or from the inability to continue to put more copies on shelf without resulting in a loss. Out comes GOG, the knight in shining armor, who offers to take your old games, make them work on modern computers, and sell them over the internet with little to nothing the publisher has to do. More revenue from old games many consider classics!
I had always imagined this would happen eventually here, but the pieces may be falling onto the board faster than I had anticipated! Gamer bliss is near!

Delixe: Sir I admire that and your wager is taken. I personally think Satan will be skating to work the day Acti/Blizz appear on GOG.

wait, what about if neither of us are correct? that would be anticlimactic. if we're both wrong, we both post sock in mouth in a new thread for all of GOG to see. it's time to be men, delixe

I think the System Shocks are not popular enough to "deserve" such a treatment :)
Not as popular as many other titles that have been cited in this thread, at least.

Have you seen the wishlist? The System Shock games are the number 1 and 3 most requested games on this site! If it is the SS games, it is definitely deserving of such treatment.

Going digital with their older titles is also a great kick to the giant groin that is the used game business. Publishers and developers alike would much rather get $5 or $10 of profit from an older title than see no profit from used game sales. Even the percentage GOG takes from every sale is not enough to dissuade this course of action!

Yes, they're also among my most wanted. The thing is I think they're not that popular in the "outside GOG" world. That's just an opinion, Gogers might have wanted to attract the interest of GOG gamers and not the rest of the world, of course.
I know! :) Since it might be Activision/Blizzard, they'll release Diablo II on Thursday! Blizzard will give it to GoG as a part of their marketing campaign for Diablo III and we can all go happily hunting Diablo and his brothers =)
(I can still dream :P And get another copy of my preciousssss :))

EDIT: Bleah. It's even been too long for me since tape drives -- you don't need the "*", just LOAD.

Actually, LOAD"*" , and LOAD would both be for the tape drive, at least on my C64, for the disk drive, you'd have to specify a device, like ",8" ;)
And now, get back to the riddle!:D

Yes, I think a Diablo affaire would have justified this kind of announcement more than a SS one, since Diablo and Starcraft are much more known among gamers in the world.
i could only hope the count down is for the 1990s bladerunner game
but i doubt it
i realy hope GOG is not over hypeing something lackluster - i'm guessing it is a bunch of games or publisher
some one mentioned Sierra - that would be real cool
Halo- can that game make any more money? everyone i know has a copy or has played the heck out of it.
someone was hoping for Alpha Centuri - i have seen that game on ebay many times - i have an original copy and it works normaly on my XP PC
I can see the hype being for EA - although, I rather see something else
If it is a Publisher i am hopeing for #1 Sierra, #2 Lucas Arts

Thats subjective. Personally I couldn't give a crap about Diablo or Starcraft.
I'm separating myself from this, right here and now, until more clues are revealed. I feel like I can't add any more to the conversation until more evidence is present, as I will continue to scream "THREE BIG PUBLISHERS! THREE BIG PUBLISHERS!"
To the rest of you, good luck trying to keep the discussion on a track. It's already gone off the rails several times, and we don't want a crash.
