MrDOS: Something of interest a friend of mine pointed out earlier when we were discussing the hint: “troika” literally means a collection of three/three of a kind, and there were three Zork trilogies. Also, Infocom has been completely unexcelled in the interactive fiction genre. Just his 2; personally, I think he just really wants Zork ;)

Oh, that's it, it fits perfectly with my Troika=3 theory. It has to be Zork.
...
What's a Zork?
Also, some people are way to convinced they've completely solved this already.
EDIT: waaaait... Delixe, you are just pushing people's buttons, right? Almost got me there.

I'm not i'm quite happy to say I could be wrong. I just think a lot of people want their favourite game so badly that they are starting to see obvious clues where there are none. ie Karma = Carmack.

It may also point to the Ultimas, Three Ages, all gathering three games:
Age of Darkness : Ultima 1-3
Age of Enlightenment: Ultima 4-6
Age of Armageddon: Ultima 7-9.;)
So it;s a double triplet. ;P
You know the Quest for Glory games (well, 2-5) had a karmic system... if you had enough "honour" you could become a Paladin.
That adds to the Sierra (ActiBlizz) thing.

Anyone else can see the irony? :))

captfitz: and for the last time that was NOT a coincidence!
avatar
Delixe: And i say it was. Are you telling me GOG simply put together a random phrase to spell out Troika? A random phrase that just so happens to be a huge clue to Ultima?
Karmic System. Troika didn't use one, its an obscure reference if thats the case. Ultima however DID use a Karmic system.

it's not a random phrase, it means something, but the more important meaning is the clue they put in there. TOEE is D&D and your character can be 'chaotic good' or other moral alignments, which it could easily be referring to. or it could be another clue on its own. but there is absolutely no way that troika is a coincidence. if the hint is karma, why did they put 'incredible' and 'awareness' in around it? those are both entirely unnecessary to the clue and slightly awkward there anyway, they were just needed to spell out troika.

cogadh: Its also a Russian word for a carriage drawn by three horses side-by-side.
Make of that what you want...

Oregon Trail...x3

I just hope that on Thursday I won't be asking you:
"Would you like the sock with or without the garnish?"

Twilight: Anyone else can see the irony? :))

Everybody, including me. ;) Note that with every clue we return to the same spot.
With every clue we return to M$, Acti, EA and Lucasarts.
Surprised nobody said "there were only three good Monkey Island games" yet. :)

That's true. They could have just said "prepare for the return of karma".
Welcome Activision!

ok, maybe i shouldn't have said before that i was sure it would be acti/blizz or atari, because i don't know how tricky the GOG team is being. i can see them trying to make us think that troika was about the publisher when they were actually trying to use the whole "set of three" thing as a clue.
but i still stand with my main point: troika was an intentional clue bro. that, or sock in mouth.
wait, the first letter of each word is ETU, I don't get it.

The clue posted on Twitter, not the countdown. Pay attention Wec!

TBH it should be socks plural now. One for it being EA and the other for being wrong about Troika. Perhaps a Casserole? :D
