The only thing I know is I am not spending any $ this weekwnd and saving every penny for Thursday.
I suggest we, while continue discussing the possibilities, don't set our expections too high. I know, GOG has never teased anything in such a manner before, but still. It's better to expect something minor and be positively surprised than expecting something like EA on board and end up with something much less satisfying.

EndlessWaves: I wonder if the background image is significant. The glow stops behind the numbers so I wonder if they could be hiding something that's blocking the light? Four people? Four vehicles? Four letters?

Stuff: Not behind door number one ! . . . =)

I see you like using photoshop ;-).

malrau: I just noticed it, I'm just dying about this unexcelled thing.
What's that you've come up to after 15 pages of discussion, guys :-O

A load of things... Most guesses are centered around 1)a large, important publisher deal (like EA), 2)Deus Ex and 3)some other ground-shaking game announcement.

Yeah, I do . . . . with inflation being what it is . . . a picture is now worth 10,000 words . . =)

Arteveld: Though Your assumption is valid, I wonder if GOG strips the games by themselves.
avatar
Vestin: I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Oh, because my i try to base my assumptions on what i know, and what i wish might be.;) One thing i've learned, that in games [especially games] faith and hope should be abandoned for the sake of good old skepticism.;)
But i'd be positively surprised if GOG was redoing the exe's and dll's of the games by themselves. Hell, if i was made aware, that GOG is not just a really distribution company, i'd go to Warsaw wearing a potato sack begging for a job audience, believe me.;D

Thanks, when I have a little more time I'm going to check.
I am hoping for the looking glass stuff. System shock and Thief were some of my favorite games, and even though I own them, I'd be more then willing to pay for them again if they can make them work on my system. Ever since I upgraded to multi-core I haven't been able to get any dark engine stuff to run.

There are ways, for SS2 we have SS2Tool, from the http://www.strangebedfellows.de forums.
And for the Thiefs, see this: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75031
;)
System Shock 1 would be awesome, if only there was an easy way to change the keybindings, somehow it didn't bug me in Ultima Underworld, and yet it does in System Shock

Knock yourself out. They made it clear on more than one occasion that they tinker with the games to rip out the DRM, ensure compatibility and fix bugs. Then again - not every release needs extensive editing and they are, no doubt, reluctant to delve into the source code, unless there is absolutely no better way of fixing things.
Also - while I'm fairly certain they don't really need more people on their team, there's no harm in trying...
I just thought of another possibility; Bethesda. We may be getting some Elder Scrolls action up in here. Then again, Bethesda aren't really one of the top three most people think about, but they do own id software now.
I think I'm setting myself up for a big disappointment. I usually get all excited about a new game coming Tuesday and Thursday, but many times I'm let down by what shows up. I won't give up hope that EA will show up, though! They seem to be a much more open group now than ever before. Ooh, you know what else would be nice? Those old 007 games like Nightfire. That would be awesome, but potentially a licensing nightmare.

Thanks for straightening it out.
The sack was just a joke picturing my dedication for old games.;)

ranbrant: In time, the GOG team will tease us with tantalizing tidbits to torment us.

That's what we really love dear fans and customers:) But to be honest, this is just few days, is it such a big pain?:) We have ideas for definitely more painful actions in future;)
Some of you guys were damn close or even had a right guesses. So the answer is within;) The answer is (as usual) not the easiest and definitely not the most obvious, though.
But hints were given. And this is gonna be the biggest announcement ever in the GOG history (maybe except the opening of the site itself but this is different category;).
This will narrow speculations I think;)
And soon, enjoy!:)

PS. Have you noticed small change on the main page, now the importance is more underlined;)

Vagabond: It's hilarious how literally every game ever made has been speculated to be it in this thread.
avatar
Navagon: Well, every good old game.
And Daikatana.

Mmmm, that reminds me there is a game wich is -I think- certainly unexcelled in his genre and has not been speculated: Severance (or Blade, in the original version), The Edge of Darkness. And it has all the characteristics of a Good Old Game.
Anyway, a new publisher catalog seems logical, but I think they will also use that day to announce more near-future changes or something like that.
PS: In http://www.gog.com/en/about_us/team everyone has a "My favourite games". Maybe that helps in guessing future probable games.

So according to Mikee someone guessed correctly. I also highly doubt Planescape: Torment or System Shock 2 alone would qualify as "the biggest announcement ever in GOG history".
He also said "(maybe except the opening the site itself but this is different category)" - So it's not moving out of the Beta stage.
