I can't account for the entire Gog community since I'm relatively new, but I have seen posts on other threads that state that the addition of Mac support would be a welcomed feature. It could be rolled out rather quickly to most or all games in the catalogue through the introduction of a wrapper for Mac such as DosBox or Wine for Mac so I don't figure it would take a long time.
Regardless, I'll remain a huge Gog fan and continue to build my library.

cogadh: Sorry, but adding Mac support just doesn't strike me as a "countdown worthy" event, especially since the vast majority of GOG users simply don't care; we don't use Macs and never really wanted/needed/asked for Mac support. Mac support is more like the kind of thing you would see added in small increments over a long period of time, as they either acquire games with Mac support or do whatever porting magic they have to do to each title to make them Mac compatible.

BJWanlund: 5) EA (specifically for things like Theme Hospital, et al.)

Now, THAT would be a HUGE milestone for GOG... I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that this would change the face of digital distribution as a whole - finally there would be a sign that DRM doesn't have to be the way to go !
It would be a foothold for de-DRMing PC gaming, as titles would inevitably end up here, few years after being published.
At the very least - GOG would have the ultimate trump card in dealing with other publishers - who'd insist on leaving the games DRMed if even EA resigned ?

BJWanlund: 4) Team 17 (WORMS!!!!!!!!!)

I went to see whom they we acquired by and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw they remained independent for 20 years 0_o.
Would love to see Stunt GP here - that's the only... ummm... "racing game" I've ever enjoyed.
Still - Team 17 doesn't sound "unexcelled" enough.

BJWanlund: 3) Activision/Blizzard (Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, etc.)

While it seems highly unlikely, seeing how Blizzard has their own DRMless store, I've always wondered why the hell they won't sell their classics there - there's only WC3, D2, SC and WoW.
It would be AWESOME to see Lost Vikings here... Even though I prefer the voiced-over, Interplay-made version of the sequel ;P.
Yeah, a man can dream... Still - GOG would have to get StarCraft here to make the hype valid... and that's just not going to happen.
avatar
BJWanlund: 2) Sierra (specifically if we can get Tribes and other Sierra properties, such as YDKJ, the old Papyrus NASCAR Racing games & Grand Prix Legends)

Sierra games ARE classics, could warrant the hype... and are the most probable thing to happen. Sierra got bought by Activision, which is now a part of Activision-Blizzard...
If they get Sierra on board I might actually have a chance to play FEAR...
avatar
BJWanlund: 1) LUCASARTS!!!!!

Sounds mildly possible... If we get the Monkey Island Series, I hope we get the remake of the first title, as it keeps all of the original code, while adding some much appreciated but optional features... The only thing that kept me from getting it is the fact that I'd have to use Steam -_-". GOG is the ideal place for it, IMO.
Then again - it could simply be X-COM, which was named the best PC game of all time by a few sources...

I certainly can't speak for all of the forum members either, but the fact is, this is a site that (currently) only sells Windows compatible games and it is a simple fact that the overwhelming majority of PC users are not Mac users. Given that, it is not a huge leap of logic to conclude that while there is certainly some interest in Mac ports, both the majority of GOG's current customer base and their targeted potential customers are not Mac users and do not care if GOG does or doesn't support Macs. GOG knows this, so why tease something like adding Mac support with a front page countdown? It just doesn't make sense.
As for how possible Mac support is, you're assuming that most if not all of the existing library can be run on a Mac through DOSBox or Wine and that it would be a simple matter to just wrap all the games up in a compatibility package and release them. While this is certainly true (from a technical standpoint) of the DOSBox-based games on the site, it is not so true of any of the other games. Each one would require extensive testing before they could be released and the community has already identified a good number of games that simply do not work in Wine (on Linux). At best, GOG could only supply a partial catalog for Mac and it would certainly not be released all at once, not when they are already dedicating so much of their time and limited resources to simply getting new Windows-only publishers and games.
Of course, this is also assuming that the licensing and sales agreements GOG has with the respective rights holders even allows them to release a game in a Mac compatible form. Unless they negotiated that up front, there is a whole 'nother hurdle that gets in the way of this.

Delixe: IMO Big announcement EA. Games released: Dungeon Keeper, System Shock, Wing Commander 1&2 all for $5.99 each (I can dream). Then the coming soon page will have delights like Dungeon Keeper 2, Wing Commander 3, System Shock 2, Theme Park, Ultima collection (1-5) and Ultima 6.

I think my head would explode if that were the case.
It doesn't exactly belong here, but does anyone know who has the rights to the old Sierra city-building games (Caesar II-III, Master of Olympus+Master of Atlantis, Pharaoh+Cleopatra)? Seeing that they have some old Sierra IPs (Lords of the Realm, Lords of Magic, Empire Earth...), may it be they are with Rebellion?
But if they are not, it's among my hopes that anyone who has them comes to GOG!
Full gamepad support for all the games yes!
I think I'm sold by bitobah's theory that it's the Ultima series. Any Ultima game is a big deal. The whole series is big enough to warrant a countdown. And it fits the clues nicely.

If Rebellion had them, I guess we'd have them available by now...
If they stayed with Sierra, they most likely belong to Act-Blizz at this point.

Thanks for your reply.
I thought maybe Rebellion had them and we don't have them here because GOG makes deals for a smaller number of games at one time. Like with Ubisoft, first they brought HoMM, PoP, etc., and then HoMM2, HoMM3, the MM 6-pack...
One way or an other, I sure hope one day they'll end up here.
As a mac user, the first thing I thought when I saw the background was "Hey, looks like Leopard/Snow Leopard inspired!" Which lends credibility to the OS X theory, however the operating system's relatively small market share negate that theory.
Personally I think a whole publishers catalogue seems almost news *too* big for the hype they're attempting tog generate. Perhaps more like a series of X-related games. X-wing, Dues X and X-com all added on that date?
BTW "Deus" in latin (also where "Ex" is derived from) means "Deity" and so the two "Ex"'s in the title don't lend any credibility to the myth that it could simple be Deus Ex. Perhaps Deus Ex *and* IW?

Finally. I can wait a few more days.
As long as the countdown ends with the Ultima, Thief, System Shock, Crusader, and Infinity Engine series, I'll be happy.

My most wished would be:
1. Kyrandia series
2. Dungeon Keeper 1, 2
3. other bullfrog titles
GoG announces the re-release of the Fun School series. YAY! *rolls eyes*

Deus Ex would make sense, though I'm still skeptical whether it'd warrant a countdown. It's not exactly a rare game: it's on Steam for cheap and was even on Gametap's free rotation for a while.
If we're going for a single game, In my dreamworld it'd be Planescape: Torment. I consider it "unexcelled" by anything before or after it, you can't download it anywhere legally, and the cheapest I've seen it is about fifty bucks.
