YAY! *dances* Will check my emial often then! Thanks GOG! I love you guys... in a brotherly kind of way. :)
My guess: Activision Blizzard, starting off with Arcanum, of Steamworks and magic obscura and I guess we'll see more of Sierra's catalog and less of Blizzard's since they have their own store.
The only clue I'm still wondering about is the messenger one. I haven't played Arcanum (double yay because now I will!) and if nothing in the game fits that last messenger/soldier clue (I'm not checking Wikipedia in order not to spoil the game), then we may be getting two games instead of one.
T.R.O.I.K.A. + Ohio + karmic awareness: Arcanum
Two characters complementing each other beautifully: Could be "Activision" and "Blizzard", something in Arcanum's plot or something in another game.
Messenger preceding a soldier: Something in Arcanum's plot or something in another game.
Now, has anyone who have played Arcanum can make any sense in those last two clues? If not, then we're still short of guessing a second game. :)
By the way, I'd like to congratulate you guys. This thread has been fun! i think the "secret place" thing was the clue that clinched it (props to whoever guessed it). If it had been left at just Ohio, I don't know how long it would have been before someone noticed there was a town called Arcanum there.
Congrats also for getting Activision on board! I don't think anyone else has access to so many old gems (some of EA's catalog is already on Steam) and I figure you'll have a field day (field months!) of resurrections ahead of you.

The characters complementing may be "A" and "B".
Gabriel Knight, Sierra. ;)

I'm going with Lucasarts.
I have my reasons too ....
And I will be gloating on here if I'm proved correct!
(although - I hope it is EA - that would be awesome)
battlefield bad company 2 :P
I'm still not completely sure (except for the arcanum/troika deal which is obvious).
But my guess would be the Ultima series (soldier/messenger, karma, time travelling, two characters [avatar in the present and Brittania]). And if that meant the defunct Origin catalog, I'd love to put my hands on the Wing Commander series too... I know it would be EA, but since these big companies are all based on sub-companies and stuff, it would probably be possible (and easier, I guess) to sign a deal with EA just for the Origin catalog...
Well, it's probably not a new clue, but I think "The final hour is close" is one of the newspaper horoscopes in the first Gabriel Knight.
And in one of the first dialogues of the game, they talk about how Gabriel should be careful with what he does or he could screw his karma. Yes, I know it's a bit of a stretch.
Well, it sure seems like ActiBlizz is coming... At least with the Sierra catalogue. I hope they bring the Impressions games (especially Zeus: Master of Olympus+Poseidon).
EDIT: Oh, and Diablo+Hellfire if at all possible!
But I wouldn't be disppointed if it were a certain other large publisher... But it's more of a dr-EA-m to think that ;-).
Of course, the best case scenario would be if more than one giants showed up on GOG, but that's highly unlikely.

antifood: I believe Activision.

Seeing as antifood is one of those mentioned, who has the fewest posts here (as far as I can tell), this must be the answer (or part of it anyway).
So I think it is Activision.
Uh...wouldn't ActiBlizz come with Starcraft? I'd get up at 6am to buy Starcraft.
ugh... yeah yeah Activision... if there customer support was half of what is should be id be happier.. but there game catalog is AMAZING... i mean like brain exploding amazing....
either way im happy and GOG will get my money, most of fridays paycheck i imagine ^_^
I'm with Wolfox: There will not be just one but two new publishers announced at the same time!.
One pretty much is ActiBlizz with focus on Sierra/Troika, the other would most probably be EA but I'm still not excluding EIDOS.

I want Final Fantasy 7 and 8. That would require Squaresoft. I still think it's Sierra/ActiBlizz and mebbe Squaresoft/Eidos.

I didn't notice hint for "The final hour is close". What about something more simple, like "The 11th Hour"?
Guys, look what I've found?!?!?!?!?!?!?:

Could be a reference to Therese and Jeanette Voerman from Bloodlines.
