"Needless to say, I won't be supporting indie developers through Steam in the future, and do not buy this game."

Oh brother. I get why people are pissed, but have some responsibility as a consumer. It is so, so easy to know whether or not you'll get what you think you're paying for by doing the least bit of research. You definitely can't blind-buy indie games, but you can't blind-buy any games without some element of risk.
The only fiasco I see is degenerate scum trading away Steam keys after buying the DRM free Humble Store copy.

While I do agree that labelling the newest update to CC as a "1.0" update is more than a little disingenuous (and the people defending this seem to not even understand that "1.0" =/= Beta), the OP of the linked thread really should have done his homework before buying the game.

Trading as in selling? I thought Steam Trading was legit.

I think what he means is that people buy the HIB for a song, and then sell the Steam keys while continuing to keep their DRM-free editions. Which technically isn't allowed.

Let's just say a lot of Cortex Command Steam keys have turned up on the classifieds thread. And the only place to get those was with either the HIB or the Humble Store....

The word you are looking for is criminal fraud.

Ouch. I wonder if it happens often enough that it becomes an actual issue.

There have got to be people other than me who've ended up with two keys though. I have both the HIB2 and HIB3 (BTA) which means I have two keys.

I haven't tried to trade it, but I would draw a distinction between owning the game in one bundle and trading the key, and owning the game in two bundles and using one key and trading the other. After all I have two licences for the game and trading one of the keys isn't creating extra copies of the game.

Another scenario is you have the key from HIB, but you never have and don't have any intention to play the DRM free version. I don't see the issues with that, since only one person is making use of the one license.

Just an observation, but from what I've seen of GG and Desura and other digital download places, don't most of them state the game you are purchasing is in an "alpha state". I know, for example, when you go to buy "Towns" at other places like GG it says ALPHA on the bottom of the picture for "Towns".

Granted I have only recently (yesterday) signed up for GG and Desura, but I seem to remember seeing ALPHA clearly listed on some of the games there.

GG certainly does in most, if not all cases (I haven't checked every alpha stage game they sell), in the case of this one, they state:

"Cortex Command is still being improved!
Please note that Cortex Command is a work in progress! The campaign mode and missions are fully playable, if not in a completely polished state yet. However, you may buy a license today, which will give you access to all future improved versions. Oh, and they're all DRM-free so there's never any hassle with installing on as many computers as you like. Enjoy!"

However, they aren't stating it at the top of the page in red text, like they do for others. You have to click on the "more" link then scroll to the very bottom. So it's not as clear as it could be, but at least it is mentioned.
Last time I tried Corex Commando it felt a bit unfinished in all counts. And I felt like having a magnifying glass in order to actually see the UI elements properly. It really isn't a game that should be sold yet. Luckily I got it dirt cheap on Humble.

Well I have it from some hib but never activated it. Guess I won't bother with it. The video trailer looks like poop and with all these people complaining i think i have better games to play.

Stop enjoying the game. It is a fiasco, a FIASCO I tell you. Don't you read the interwebs? how dare you... grumble...
