I liked the original look of the game, but my problem was how it was given the X-COM name. We literally didn't have a new X-COM game for over a decade, and 2K announces a new game. Problem is, it isn't a return to the stratetgy turn-based game formula, but a shooter. It was only some time after the uproar that the remake of Enemy Unknown was announced.

Hard to say if the remake came about because of the complaining, or if 2K mismanaged the timing of their announcements. I am really hoping it was the latter, as that would make it more likely that the Bureau would be a good game.

I think it was the latter, Xcom Enemy Unknown seemed really far along when they announced it and they would have less done if it was getting made because of the complained over the Xcom FPS announcement.
That does make sense. Hoping for the best. :)
For anyone considering getting the game, it looks like the 3rd preorder bonus is about to be unlocked. (The XCOM Collection)

It is unlocked. And I'm now seriously considering getting it. I mean, for the price of the game, which is at 10% off, you get:

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified + Codebreakers Bonus Mission
Spec Ops: The Line
X-COM: UFO Defense
X-COM: Terror From the Deep
X-COM: Apocalypse
X-COM: Interceptor
X-COM: Enforcer
XCOM: Enemy Unknown + Elite Soldier DLC + Slingshot Pack DLC

Considering I don't already have Enemy Unknown (it is on my wishlist) and Spec Ops, and only have four of the older X-COM games non-Steam (UFO Defense, Terror From the Deep, Apocalypse and Interceptor), a total cost of £26.99 does look attractive.

Yeah, and that's one of my suspicions... Why all the extra? Spec Ops: The Line apparently lasts for about 4 hours, so for me that is not much incentive. The only real pre-order bonus is the newest X-COM. I think I can wait for discounts on that and the Bureau too, especially since there's no telling what this game is like in the end.
The reviews are coming in and the game isn't looking so good. I guess I'll be waiting for a hefty price drop.
Hmm, I watched a review video and micromanagement looks like a pain. Kinda Mass Effect-y except more console-oriented design (= slow commands/action), cheesy lines in non-hilarious way and sausage fest (sixties, I know, obviously, but still). And according to HowLongToBeat it takes only 13 completionist hours.

It's done by creators of Bioshock series, which is effectively only shooter I enjoy, yet it simply doesn't look like a game for me.

In this particular review, I am a bit concerned with how interacting with your base is carried out. Do you really have to physically run around to each seperate area of the base to interact with the different modules? After playing Enemy Unknown, and utilizing the nice base layout in that game, I can easily see myself succumbing to tedium, frustration, and boredom on this aspect alone. It's quite possible what you say may be true regarding micromangement of the game as well, although, I will still reserve judgement on that yet. As far as this reviewer claiming it is easy to lose a team member, and thus fugging the whole rest of your mission, may be true...but I also recall many reviewers claiming the same about Enemy Unknown early on as well. I found careful thought and planning, and being careful not to knee jerk react during EU missions went a long way too sucessfully completing them. Still kinda too early to tell with this new game yet, but my current assesment is not as optimistic as it once was... :-/

That's the interview I have watched. And I think the reviewer said that you can easily always run to him and revive him if he is seriously hurt.

Right now a lack of demo is the weakest point of this game. It might be an enjoyable game but video samples done by paid journalists have convinced me that I should better spend money on something else.
