Why would you think that though? Do you think GOG keys actually cost the devs money? The Steam keys don't. It's possible that GOG has less leeway there I guess but the effect of having people activate a game on your site seems quite beneficial in the longrun, even if it wasn't bought here directly.

I don't know why Stoic would not want to give out gog keys, but reasons why someone might think they don't want to include:

1. They have not answered queries about gog keys in the Stoic forums;
2. They have not answered queries about gog keys on the kickstarter forums;
3. They have said that gog is not selling the game, even though it is;
4. The only reason they have given so far for not giving out gog keys is because gog is not selling the game; and
5. They have not responded to questions about why they have said it is not available on gog when it is.

A few possible conclusions can be drawn from this:

1. Their communication skills are really bad;
2. They are not savvy enough with computers to go onto the internet and check gog.com to see if their game is available for sale or check their forum to see what kind of questions people are asking; or
3. They don't want anyone to know they are selling the game on gog.com because (for some reason) they don't want to give backers gog keys.

My money is on (1), but who the frig knows :)

The lack of communication in regards with DRM free and GOG raises suspicion (at least in my eyes) they are reluctant to spread drm free copies (or availability of them) far and wide. It seems incredible their communication level can be that bad (very infrequent despite fact game is already out) to the fanbase/potential customers in general?

I really don't see a basis for this, they've provided DRM-free for their backers as well as to GOG already, why would giving some GOG keys to their backers make any difference now?

Aye, it does seem to be on the bad side. That might be part of the problem though. As I've mentioned above already, I'm not even that convinced they actually promised GOG keys to the backers. The one statement they gave on that could easily have been taken a different way which would simply mean they'd soon provide a DRM-free edition to both their backers and GOG. Which is what has happened so far.

I agree the statement was ambiguous. The problem with their current drm free offering is that, now that it has been formally announced, nobody seems to be able to download it. Someone said they tried 6 times. Giving access to a link to a drm free download that can't handle the traffic from people trying to download it, isn't really giving backers a drm free version of the game.

That's a bit strange, since Stoic tweeted the release on GOG February the 5th, and RT the GOG announcement few hours after. So they obviously knew that GOG released their game, and the day they did.

I think that's the whole point : for a three-men studio, being soo not on the same page beats records in poor communicationship.

It's not really surprising that their servers are overburdened by the downloads. It's 2.3GB download containing both Win and Mac version (it seems) and special edition extras. It's more suprising they did not anticipate this. What's odd about this is that they made the announcement week AFTER they added the link to DRM-free download (had I not found mention it in their forums and downloaded it then I'd be stuck like everyone else).

Then again there's worse cases like Dead State where devs require you to message them if you don't want steam key and want DRM-free instead (tought luck if you want DRM-free but miss this as, if you don't request it, you'll get steam keys instead by default). Also how they provide the DRM-free is entirely up in the air as they've not made contact with any other vendor beside Steam. They also post mumbo-jumbo like 99.5 % of backers have been happy with steam key.

I wouldn't have found out about the drm free link for backers if i hadn't seen someone mention it on the KS comments :/.
About Dead State, i was looking forward to getting a pre order (as i had missed out on the KS), but sounds like those devs have a boner for Steam sadly....doesnt anyone get sick of stuff like that?

If you back a kickstarter and want DRM-free, you have no reason to complain if you get DRM-free.
If you demand DRM-free and really mean GOG-key - that's your fault.

I just got my response back from messaging Stoic thru Kickstarter. Your only option of an DRM free version is through there own website.

I've backed this on Kickstater and could've sworn GoG would have been an option for DRM free version. I'm not gonna go sifting thru updates and comments about it, too much work.

I am extremely disappointed they won't give backers GoG keys. Almost every kickstarter I backed gave me a GOG key. Notably, ShadowRun and Expedition Conquistadors.

Care to show a screenshot of that? I reckon you misread something, since they always stated that both Steam and GoG.com versions will be available for backers.

as far as I remember they never mentioned gogkeys at all.just distribution via Gog. having said that I don't remembering them saying how exactly they were delivering DRM free version either. you can't automatically assume promise of DRM free to mean a gogkey I guess

Distribution via GOG.com means GoG.com keys, there is no other way.
