Trilarion: Thanks for the info. How ridiculous. For all I care they should just shutdown Candy Crush Saga in case it really interferes with anything else. :P
Yeah. And the worst part is that, according to Gamestar, this could impact development of the rest of the series, so I really hope that this can be resolved soon.

Kardwill: If you're talking about TBS, normally, part 2 and part 3 will be stand alone games. But part one is supposed to be able to stand on its own.
That said, some testers have complained that the part one ending does not give a completely satisfying conclusion to the story. Can't say myself, I'm not yet at the end of the game :)
Ok, thanks a bunch for the info :)
I'll check back on the whole trilogy later then.

Pheace: Unknown deal?
avatar
shane-o: I believe Potzato means since The Banner Saga is episodic (3 in all), he knows nothing (quality and content-wise) of the remaining two that are yet to be made, hence them being an "unknown deal"
Yes, thanks for clarifying things.

Lebostein: The DRM-free version is a fake...
What is the problem to release the game on different channels at the same time?
avatar
KneeTheCap: I'm sure they do it in order to battle against piracy. DRM-free game may be released after the initial DRM'd period?
avatar
Niggles: Probably the case :/.
If that's the case it's a lost battle and idiotic, as it's been cracked and up on torrent sites since Jan 14.

Yeah I am sure they are a bunch of morons ;)

Skysect: Yeah I am sure they are a bunch of morons ;)
Morons is a harsh term, I guess they're part of the mentality that DRM-free is (exclusively) to be blamed for piracy.

Yeah I know but I can't keep calm in this situation . Patch 1 is released but still there is no explanation about delays .

Or they're replacing some Steam functionality with that of their own to make the DRM-free version feature-complete? Guys, seriously. It's not like a bit of a wait is going to rip your guts out.

If they are at it, could they please publish the Steam replacement as a library, so other software manufacturers can benefit from that too? I guess the Steam replacement app only has to be coded once and make open source and there you go.

I don't think they could, and that it would actually be of much help even if they did. There are 'Steam replacement' libraries already, i. e. libraries that offer the same functionality as Steam - they're just much more difficult to implement, which I suppose is why we wait

Game was launched Jan 15th. 9 days since the launch. Don't you think its its a bit unfair to people waiting?
Kickstarter backers would have assumed steam and drm free versions would have been launched at same time. What other devs have delayed launching one version over the other?.
Anyway Question - is it easier to steamwork a game at the start, rip it out later, or tack steamworks on top of a drm free version of the game?.

Honestly? I don't think it's unfair. Nowhere did they promise a release of DRMed and DRM-free version at the same time, I have actually checked their KS page because if such a promise was made, I would have reconsidered giving them full 20 eur out of my next paycheck. And just think about it - they've already had the game on Steam for testing purposes, releasing it there must be far easier than re-creating a version for other services - and if I really dislike something about industry, it's artificically postponing releases of a finished product.

I think it's just about the same, the work has to be done regardless and if you design your product around the idea of eventually going DRM-free, it really shouldn't matter all that much

Wouldn't you think from a reasonable average person's view though, if you back X product, you would *expect* to receive it at launch just like everyone else? (id say its a reasonable expectation)

Well they could either sit on a finished Steam version and wait with release to have finished everything, or just release what they have and then release the rest ASAP. Basically, there's absolutely no disadvantage in you playing it later, it's a single-player RPG game. But, there's a big disadvantage for them in releasing it everywhere as they have to support all the versions at once.

For a moment I thought that I might had missed saying that... but nope, I did say it.
Thanks for taking the time to actually read before replying :-P

Huh? I have added another scenario to that of yours, where do I even begin to refute or argue against you?
