I made a list of the titles that I liked from their list, and in all there were 47 games. I probably could have added more, but while they were good, I didn't feel they belonged on such a list. (47 was kind as it is.) My more critical version of my list comes to a total of 35 of their games.

It's not my list so obviously it won't match up, but I felt that many of the games listed were horribly out of place number-wise, especially Portal. Portal was fun, but doesn't seem to have much replay value. At least Tetris plays differently every time. It wasn't the worst list I've seen of this nature, but I've seen ones that matched my tastes a lot more.

Andy_Panthro: I don't think they included a single Westwood or Bullfrog game...

Delixe: No Bladerunner. #listfail

Hell no freaking TIE FIGHTER!!! Ok i'm walking away before I get angry now.
This proves the folly of attempting a "best of" list.

I could write a top 100 PC games list and I'd still miss important games.
What's sad is that the stupid ass Tetris game still gets ranked high.

What the fuck!?

EDIT: It doesn't even deserve to be in the top 500.

Portal! Best Game Ever! wait what? this list is ridiculous

Delixe: Grand Theft Auto IV at #4 was a joke. It wasn't that good even as a GTA game. How there was no mention of Vice City is completely beyond me.

Roman5: GTA IV was so so boring to me, it didn't do anything extremely new or innovative, neither was it any better than the previous games

All hype and no substance
I love GTA IV and played the hell out of it... and still wouldn't have even included it on the list.

I would have moved GTA: San Andreas into the top ten. GTA IV exceeded GTA:SA in graphical capability and nicely streamlined the controls... But San Andreas was simply far more expansive, immersive, varied, and fun. It had everything: gunplay, dancing, racing, knife fights, helicopters and planes, gambling, dating, and though the story was derivative, it was still cohesive and, dare I say it... epic.

GTA IV pulled a lot of punches and took out a lot of the best elements, like working out to buff up, tattoos, and rural environments. It also leaned far too heavily on making you engage in social activities at very inopportune times. Plus, the PC version was a headache for many players.

Aaron86: But what exactly would be the right number of console games?

* Insert whinging about PC gaming elitism here. *
Well, for a long time video gaming was equal to computer gaming. I can say that lately console games are equal or sometimes even better than PC games (well, I would for sure be interested in Alan Wake and Uncharted 1 & 2). But for old games, console games are not really interesting.
I can honestly say, I haven't played most of those games, especially the console ones.
#1 was so disappointing.
A 10-page article? Yeah, I'll surely give it a read. Page 1, then --> close tab....

Delixe: While I always enjoy these lists you have to remeber they are highly subjective. I would disagree with 60% of the games in that list although it did make me happy to see Sega Rally and Shenmue. There are glaring ommisions from the Saturn and Dreamcast though. No Panzer Dragoon Saga? Madness.
The comments section for these articles should be locked by default. You invariable wind up with pre-teens who complain about their near-and-dears that either didn't make the list or weren't high enough on it. "The dickhead who wrote this list should be marooned in Transvestania! How dare he not place X game in Y spot! He's surely not a true gamer!"
More console-y than a lot of these lists. Not bad, but not at all what I would do... same as any "top anything" list. Some key points:

Kingdom Hearts being on there is ridiculous. I am not much of a console gamer but I did eventually buy a PS2 for Final Fantasy and some other games and I did buy Kingdom Hearts. It was easily one of the worse games I ever played in my entire life.

Fallout 2 being on there, and relatively high, is awesome.

On Oblivion they say "until Skyrim ships, this is still the last word in free-roaming fantasy RPGs"... NO, NOT REALLY, THANKS ANYWAY.

Way too many Nintendo games, as usual with any list of this type.

Seeing Xbox 360 and PS3 listed for Half-Life 2 makes me sad.

Portal at number one is pretty stupid. I loved that game, but it's nowhere near the best game ever made.
i cant see how those chose tetris over pong, snake and pac man,gta vice city is better than gta 4 any day
i would put deus ex, Pokemon yellow/crystal, <any of the metal gear solid series game>, age of empires 2,diablo 1 in the top list
instead of mass effect 2 , half life 2 , portal etc

What's the point of making a BEST games list if not to encourage debate? Yeah some people will act like the person pissed in their cornflakes but if you are going to make a list like this expect people to get angry as everyone has an opinion.

It is a joke, because GTA 4 is number 4.

Debate should be done BEFORE making the list, which would then be made up of the results from a consensus taken by a "majority rules" vote. That way, the complainants should all be satisfied with "your choices were outvoted by the larger part of the group, that's why they are where they are in the list, if they're in there at all".
