While I find that doll to be a bit on the tasteless side and yet I don't think they should have cut it. Show things as they were originally intended.
A lot of folks over here in the US have a P.C. bug up their a$$ about what is and what is not appropriate material, (especially in my homestate of Missouri, interestingly enough the birthplace of Walt Disney) fortunatly so far they've just been confined to putting little stickers on records. Is this a problem is Sweden? Has it been? Now I live in a region of the country settled primary by Scandinavians over the past 80-100 years. There is next to no P.C. here and the consesus opinion of Scandinavia (be it correct or non) is that it is an extremely laid back non-P.C. region of Europe.

Arteveld: The nazi argument in the title thread, this will go well...
I'm angry about this and there's a myth that Disney had nazi sympathies so I put it there. Wasn't maybe very wise but now it's done.

What?

and obnoxiously so
I guess they decided to play in the "safe" side and cut those scenes for the public transmission. Disney and MGM have been doing this for some time for theirs old cartoons ("Tom & Jerry" cartoons are an example for this).

I don't know if the DVDs & BDs for domestic private use have the censorship though.

Removing racist images from a cartoon is kind of like the Holocaust, when you think about it the right way.

There is P.C. here too. Not a whole lot though and not something you notice in your daily life.
is sweeden the place that recently(ok well the 70s or 80s. recent for a tradition even if its removal predates my existence) purged "black Pete" too? Cause he was definitely covered in soot. Even if he was a "moor" he had to have been a moorish chimney sweep to get that soot on his face. moores didn't look like that. They looked alot more mexican than blackface. Spain's soccer team has a player of the race formerly referred to as "blackmoor" by medieval europe and he looks maybe italian(he isn't italian obviously. but i mean by coloring). But more recently people think everybody from africa is black..They think carthage was black instead of phoenician(semetic) ect. Aparently no arab looking people ever lived there(At least by modern American assumptions)

-edit. no thats dutch...nevermind

do you have santa's demon sidekick there? (While Santa rewards good children with small oranges and chocolates in their shoes his demon sidekick punishes evil ones by dragging them to hell in his handbasket...or leaving a salted herring on their pillow if they were merely bad) can't remember the name or I'd look that up

I never know when you're sarcastic or not. The safe thing would be to think all of your posts as sarcastic but that's not very nice. ;)

If I made a Blog it would probably die off after a month or two. My opinions aren't very interesting. :P
Oh and I never post on blogs. It have always felt kinda pointless.
So far we've got racist warner brothers and nazi disney. All we need now is a company to step up and be sexist!

Oh, give it a rest already.
I saw stuff in the media in France when I was there (and it sure as hell wasn't in the 30s) that would never have flown even at the same time in the US. The imagery would have been considered more than just a little racist.

It's probably hard for the OP to understand but in the US we're very sensitive to stuff like black face and other bigoted tropes. Germany is extremely sensitive to Nazi memorabilia and the like. Sometimes our cultural identities get scarred and we deal with it as well as we can (and not that well at times).

Just realize the imagery over there may not be nearly as big a deal, but here it's a much, much bigger deal. Disney is an American corporation and is largely judged in the court of popular opinion based on US morals.
Political correctivness is the new racism.

There was a case here, when the Police didn't call a missing girl "black" because they thought it could be offensive, so they called her "of dark complexion".

Well, it would've helped if they called it black, because it's rather uncommon in Poland.

Coming up next: calling somebody a woman is offensive.
