Heh, where'd you find this ancient thread!?
zenryoku: Thanks CD Projekt! After the Spore fiasco, among other disappointments in gaming this year, this has renewed my faith as a gamer. So, thanks again!
I agree and echo the thanks! I followed the development of Spore for many years.
Too bad it wasn't allowed to be even half the game it was meant to be.
Now nearly three years later, the PC Gaming industry still disappoints. For me it's recently been Civilization V. Directly followed by Elemental: War of Magic. Civ's been nearly the only game for me since 2001. But last year 2k and/or Firaxis jumped the shark to force steam on us. So I passed. I'm glad I did after hearing from Civ fans and watching "let's play" videos. The once brilliant Civ franchise became a cash cow for taketwo/2k. They pillaged the game. Gone was the art , beauty and depth of it. Nothing left but a shiny hollow shell. Just another mass-market cheap assed product.
The king is dead. Long live the King. So after ten years of fanatical dedication to Civ, I needed a replacement. Which led me to stumble onto the EWOM hype. I bought all that hype that Stardock was selling. Epic fail!! It would take too many words to even abridge all that went wrong there. Then to top it all off, Stardock went and sold out our digital distribution accounts to gamestop of all companies!? Stardock talked at length at how they were the gamers David versus steams Goliath. Turns out Stardock was nothing more than Judas. Bah humbug!
The king was a jester. Where art a rightful King?! So after all that I just gave up on new games. I started searching Amazon for golden oldies like SMAC, MOM, AoW, and other greats I had missed. And I suffered through the whole DRM and EULA research. Checked into patch availability.. cuz we all know games are released in a beta state nowadays ;~( Gawd the industry is a mess! I gave up. Their over the top money grubbing sickens me.
But alas, some kind forum goers clued me into GOG. Everything changed after that! Proper respect in privacy policy and terms of use agreements! No dastardly DRM to muck up my computing and gaming environment! No unfriendly watchdog between me and my play! And more!! I've bought more games in my two months at GOG, than I have in the last ten years. And for every GOG I own, I've bought one to give away. I am happy to support GOG's rise!
GOG is King! Long live the King!! .
