MichiGen: I pledged 3$, well it's not much but I spend too much on games in last month :-/. I hope they will reach the Goal, I didn't play Tex Murphy yet. However I bought it from GOG in promo, and it seems like a great adventure with awesome atmosphere. They putted a lot of effort into the video which is on kickstarter. I believe when this would be released it would be DRM Free, and if not, nevermind. We need this game !

lowyhong: You ... haven't played it?

*steeples hands and leans forward*

Gentlemen, we have a non-conformist here. I'm sure you know ... *walks out dramatically* ... what to do.
Heh, I will definitely play it in the future, hopefully before the release of this new project :)
No need for hasty actions gentleman :D
I received The Pandora Directive for Christmas 1996 as well. Along with Under a Killing Moon, they were the start of my love for adventures games! They have been unmatched since. I love the third-person Monkey Islands, Broken Swords, and The Whispered World type games too, but the Tex Murphy games are quite different with their full 3D first person environments, great cut-scenes, innovative conversations, and noire parody humor. I would donate millions of dollars to the Project Fedora Kickstarter if I could.

And don't listen to what anyone says. Mean streets and Martian Memorandum are great games. Yes they are very old, but I played them for the first time last year (I like to play a series from the beginning) and loved every minute,
Awesome?

I love the blurb at the bottom explaining who sponsored the ad.

That's a really good idea. I'm going to see how much it costs to post an ad in the papers here. Not that I really expect anyone will give a rat's ass, but I love the Tex Murphy games so much, and a DRM-free, DLC-free, and DDT-free sequel to Overseer is just plain smashing, I'm willing to fork out a bit to do my duty.

I wonder if it wouldn't just be better to put the money for the ad towards the kickstarter campaign. Chances are that anyone who still gets their news from pieces of paper is not likely to back a video game that doesn't exist.
I've pledged $50, seems an ok deal as they include some of their other games in the bundle, not sure how good they are but seems decent deal. Comes with a choice of a Tex Murphy game on GOG so I assume that means gift voucher I can give away, I can just see swamp of Tex Murphy giveaways on GOG coming from the fans.

I would like to start it from the very beginning, I don't care that they are old, if the dialogue writing and puzzles are good :) By the way, is there some prequel in these series? Should I play them in the order they were released or in some other order?

If you don't mind playing the older games then playing them as they were released is not a bad idea: Mean streets, Martian Memorandum, Under a killing moon, The Pandora Detective (um. Directive) then Overseer.

The first two games don't have the greatest writing and puzzles but its just the whole atmosphere. You really feel like a futuristic Private eye. Especially with mean streets, where you need to take down your own notes on real paper and chase down leads. I played that game without referring to a walkthrough once and it was very rewarding.

wow, lol
I have amazingly fond memories of playing these games - funny, noiry, interesting puzzle but a proper layered hint system if you got stuck and player decisions had an impact on the flow of the story, which was very unusual in its day.

The guys behind it are funny, very committed to Tex, chatty with their fans and offering great reward tiers and frequent updates.

Back the new project - you will not regret it =)

Even if there was a prequel, I'd say play in order of release as a general rule. Like how I wouldn't tell someone to start Star Wars with the Phantom Menace.
