Woah, just saw the stuff about cloud saves. Do they really think Tex Murphy fans and adventure game fans in general care about that? Sure they can release a Steam version with those things, but to rule out other releases because they think cloud saves are necessary?

Blagh.

They are not as cool as I thought they were. The dodgy answers about DRM were particularly confidence shattering.

I'm out, even if it doesn't look like it's going to make it. If they want my money at all they have to show they're prepared to trust me.

It seems we started quite a heated discussion in the Kickstarter comments section.

This is the second response I received when asking whether the sign-in for cloud saves would be compulsory:-

I just spoke with the programmers, and they reassured me that games will in fact be locally saved. The only time you have to sign in is the first time you run the game after installing. As for the life span of the registration server, we will talk to GOG about releasing an entirely DRM free version in the future, however it is not one of the "day one" launch sites.

Bottom line, you will have to unlock the game by connecting to a server with a registered account. If this isn't DRM, I don't know what is. I was in for $770 but I'm not backing under these terms. At best the FAQ is deliberately misleading and this rubs me up the wrong way.

Anyway I do hope they come up with an official statement to settle this, just to give some sort of closure.

Yeah, the only thing I'm really pissed off about is the evasive answers and, as far as I can tell, outright lies.

Give them a chance, youve got to figure a part of this mess is because they havnt fully decided how the release formats are going to work.

Yeah I'm willing to give them that. I'm still happy to back $100 if they can assure the game to be installed whenever, wherever.

@SirPrimalForm I wouldn't bother arguing on the Comments section, tbh. It's why I stay away from the Comments section in every project I've backed - if you're not a starry-eyed, thick-headed loyalist who must go with the flow, then you are the enemy.

Yeah, I stopped a little while ago. There were people going "but the FAQ says DRM-free, so it's all fine". I just needed to point out the contradictions, that's done now.

And seriously, "one online activation at install" is not the same as all these other invasive drm's. The witcher 2 does an online check, so do any of the telltales games. It is not anywhere near the same level as installing drivers/rootkits. An install check is not worth burning them at the stake.

GOG's Witcher 2 doesn't. Telltale's games do, which I why I don't buy any of their games unless they do the DRM-free DVD as well.

Okay, their latest update says

"We just want to make one thing very clear. We are indeed planning to have the new Tex Murphy game "Project Fedora" DRM free. We don't know where the communication errors began, but you may quote us on the fact that we are DRM - Free. "

It should be very hard for them to get away with online activation now.

At least it shows their hearts are in the right place. I'm still a bit cautious, but I'm definitely giving them the benefit of doubt.

I don't get it. So now all of those PMs are inaccurate? The wording in the FAQ is weird too, "Will I be able to play “Project Fedora” DRM – Free?", maybe they mean after you've installed/activated the game, you can "play it DRM-free". Too confused, I just hope everybody's happy in the end.
