The wail of a siren, the bark of a gun. A private eye's job is never easy, and it only gets harder after the world nearly ended. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, though, and you've never given up on a tough job just because life wasn't fair. A Norm has to work hard to stay ahead of the muck that's in this world, and now's your chance to save Frisco from the worst of it. Life's like a dame: you gotta take care of it or, just when you think everything's going fine, you'll be out of luck.

That was a terrible metaphor, but when you've been kicked in the head as much as Tex has--and enjoyed as much bourbon--writing isn't your strong suit. Not much is, except finding the secrets that people don't want found, and making the world a little better.

If you're not familiar to Tex Murphy games let us make a short intro. The games take place in San Francisco, or what's left of it, in a not too distant future. You take the role of Tex Murphy, a down-on-his-luck private detective who finds it hard to make both ends meet every month. All five games are point and click, noir-style adventure games, take you through a different case and will test your deduction skills and wits.

This weekend, you can pick up the Tex Murphy games for 50% off, and see if you've got what it takes to make San Francisco a better place.
Right, im gonna buy one off these tex murphy games as i have never played them, but just one, im becoming a gog junkie, which one would you recommend i buy guys/gals?
I am to Tex Murphy to what TheJoe is to The Guild and whoever doesn't buy at least UAKM, PD and Overseer is a grotesquely ugly freak.
So what are you waiting for?

Hm, so far I've just played Mean Streets and Martian Memorandum, even though I bought the games you mention quite a while ago. Does that upgrade me to a just slightly ugly freak, or am I still grotesquely ugly for owning them but not playing them? :)
I already bought the games a long while ago but it's always good to see them on sale.

And I'm sure I'm still the only person here who owns this album...

JMich: Is it a new trend for GOG to have spelling mistakes in all announcements? Do we win something for finding them? Or is it just a pun I couldn't understand?

Kunovski: there are even more, like San Fransico (or is that yet another inside joke?)
you might try to opt in and become their proofreader :D
I did a terrible job writing this one and Cook doesn't generally need to copy edit me. :(
I was waiting for this, good choice of promo GoG, now get back the HoMM one again plz, I missed It!
As suspected, got this promo too. Wasn't this the second promo this week already?

I originally came to GoG a couple of months ago in order to get a couple of RPGs, but now I am convinced GoG will eventually lure me to buy pretty much all of their games with these promos...

Ok, fortunately I am not that interested in retro racing games or sports games, but I don't know what happens to me if and when GoG decides to promote them for a couple bucks as well. Anything is worth a couple of bucks, today I bought a bit of candy and two beers which cost me lots more, and I've consumed it already!

Which reminds me, credit card should be in a safe place when GoGging intoxicated. Friends don't let friends to go to GoG under influence.
Is this series plays the same like that old X-Files adventure game on PS1? Also, which one should I try first? Tex Murphy 1&2?
Yes, yes, yes !!! Thank you GOG, I was waiting for this a long time :)
Finally, I bought something from my wishlist! ;) (nothing wrong with all the ones I bought that weren't on my wishlist... but this is encouraging regardless).
Nice, you already own all the awesome games in this promo!

SirPrimalform: You're probably right. Mean Streets does play digitised sound through the internal speaker (even the music is various sections of looped digital audio). This would almost certainly sound much nicer through an Amiga (or Amiga emulator).

timppu: Now that I checked the screenshots on MobyGames, the PC VGA version does seem considerably better in general. So maybe there is no point trying the inferior-looking Amiga version, even if it had clearer sounds. I just assumed the Amiga version would look pretty much the same as the DOS version because that was the case with many other ports (but maybe those were mainly Amiga => PC, not vice versa).

The graphics style in the Amiga/Atari ST/C=64 versions of the game look somewhat similar to each other, and different from the DOS version. So probably two different branches made by two different teams or something.
I might have just worked out the reason for the difference. I think the Amiga was limited to 64 colours (6-bit colour?) whereas the DOS version can run in VGA mode (256 colours, 8-bit). That might account for the Amiga graphics not looking quite as good. I actually thought they looked nicer in a few places though.
DEAR GOG
During the Digital Games Factory promo, I posted that I could use a Tex Murphy sale. For this happy coincidence, I would like to tell you: I love you. I will now pick up the remaining games.
