cogadh: Perhaps I should have been more specific: FPS + "sword and sorcery" RPG = Fail. I actually like Deus Ex and VtM:B, but to me they are both much more FPS than RPG.

You don't make any sense to be quite honest with your "fail comments". Bethesda's games definetly don't "fail" seeing as they are some of the most well known and popular RPGs in existence. And on the other hand, perspective alone can't possibly contribute to a whole game failing. Its not a "FPS+RPG", its a first person perspective RPG. And there is alot of benifets to having games that provide that. It's hilarious when people claim that anything with a first person perspective is an FPS. Thats like saying every 3rd person RPG is a 3rd person shooter. It's just retarded..
I never really got into any of the TES games. What's the best game to start from?

Daggerfall. You get a horse and carriage, you get two were- forms (boar and wolf), vampirism, more factions, slightly more evolved AI than Arena, more races IIRC, and more skills (climbing and such). Morrowind is a good starting place too but it is a slightly trimmed version of Daggerfall but at least the guards don't kill you on sight like the earlier games.

You need to re-read what I wrote. I said "For me, FPS + RPG = Fail". I didn't say the game itself was a failure or that people don't like it, I just don't like it or any other sword and sorcery first-person RPG, hence why I won't be voting for it.
this has certanly gotten popular.
-BUT- the point of this is to inspire votes to morrowind, GOTY, or vanilla morrowind.

I respect that. A lot of people here on this site have been bashing different games and such that I love, because they don't like them, but I don't care at all, it's their opinion. Whenever I say my opinion on something I don't like, I've often gotten all these "GASPS! How you can you be like that?!?!?" type responses.
Personally I love FPRPG's, but I don't mind that you don't, and since you do not like them there isn't any reason for you to vote for any of them.
Apparently Morrowind GOTY shall be hitting steam in some time in the future, heard it from a guy on neogaf that apparently has connections. Maybe since bethesda is starting to put old games in steam they could also take a look at GOG for digital downloads.

It's hard to imagine how GOG could compete with Steam here. GOG thrives on adding extra content to games at low prices. I'm not sure that they could push the price down for Morrowind on this site and still include exclusive content.
I don't know...the whole collection aspect seems to appeal more to Steam's style.
I would love to see some of the earlier Elder Scroll games here, though (particularly Daggerfall).
+1 point for Daggerfall or Arena. Although Morrowind would be cool to have too, and GOG can very much compete with Steam, why not?
i have GOTY morrowind allready :) so +1 for daggerfall.
I still maintain that Daggerfall is a load of overambitious, partially-functioning bollocks.

I thought it was a great reply.
Okay, here's a thread from when I first played the game: http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=744000 It's quite an interesting read (at least for me), though it doesn't really cover the part where I lost all interest in the game.
This post from another thread sort of does:
"Honestly, I'm feeling the same way about the random content in Daggerfall - nothing's the same, but everything is the same. There may be a million different towns and a million different dungeons, but as far as I'm concerned there is only one town and only a small handful of dungeons.
Random dungeons can actually work from a gameplay perspective (but not an immersion one), but walking through towns and the overworld really seems like a whole lot of pointless noise - like you say, there's no real fun in exploring randomly-generated filler. An overworld and town system that was entirely menu driven would subtract nothing from the experience (I personally think it would enhance it), and when you can say that about something, you kind of know you have a misguided design plan.
RPG w/ OCD"
And the rest seems to have been lost in time. Just take in on faith that I had some really compelling, well-thought-out arguments. The game is a mess. For such an intricate production, it 'works' on only the most rudimentary level.

So you say that L4D is another mess? That game has randomly populated levels, with enemies' locations and variety randomly placed according the player's skills. Their AI called the Director makes the levels different each time theyre played. The levels themselves are the same, but they play different each time.
