Wishbone: They want my money? They need to abide by my rules.
I agree. Then again it is easy for me to say that, as I don't even know why I am supposed to want to play that particular game. It would be just one more game in my backlog of thousands of other games, right?

I recognize the name, I recall seeing it many times on Steam frontpage. Apparently some kind of indie game with cartoony graphics, lots of green? Ok, but I think I'll pass getting a Steam key for it, even for a nickel...

(back to playing Baldur's Gate 2)

EDIT: Or was it some kind of 2D Minecraft, right?

Ugh. Please tell me that multiplayer doesn't require us to type in IPs. Please tell me they added a server browser or something!

It does, and thank lord for that. From my experience, most indie games with server browser just keep running into issues.

sort of. but its way more than that right now. its way less about building more about exploring, crafting and fighting mobs.

Potzato: That game was on special sale countless times, made into a bunch of bundles, was fun from the start.

Getting it NOW of all times seems weird.

Edit : ... but this game is worth buying anyway :D
Unless im wrong i dont think this game has actually been in ANY bundle before at all?. It seems to have only been on sale countless times on Steam....(google doesnt show it being in any bundle previously).

Terraria is exclusively on the Steam Store as of this writing.
I have checked, and the game has not been in any bundle from Humble, Gala or Royale.
And it makes no sense to be only on Steam... It doesn't use the Steam servers for multiplayer..

I don't think it even need the client to play...

It doesn't, but that doesn't stop Steam's monopoly.

I realize that for a time it was pretty much impossible to self-publish, but these days it should be able to grassroots a game though the gauntlet after Cave Story and La-Mulana proved that.

I've it installed right now and if Steam isn't on it says:

"Error. Please launch the game through your Steam client."

However, when I was into modding Terraria you needed a launcher and some special modding tool that made the game accept new mods, when you used them I remember that it bypassed Steam because it rewrites the *.exe or something like that. I can't confirm it now as I don't have the mods anymore and I'm waiting for the update.

Effectively you could use the mod tools as sort of a legitimate "fix" to bypass CEG but I suppose it's still a violation of the EULA and likely illegal in Valve's eyes but as always I've never heard of anyone becoming banned for that (or prosecuted for that matter).

I think by "it doesn't need the client to play", they didn't mean it was DRM-free but rather that it doesn't NEED the client (as in there's no justification for it because it doesn't use any of the features of the client other than the DRM).

Oh, ok.
I thought a DRM free version of Terraria existed? The one that was sold in physical stores and included a bunny pet.

The collectors edition? Available in the UK and Germany, neither that I currently reside in. If I had to guess, it requires the installation of steam and is just an overpriced box.

Yep, checked the 1 star reviews, someone was confused why it had to 'go through a website called steam'.

Nope, the physical version of the game uses Steam as well (and comes with all of the other stuff that was in the box, including trading cards). =/
