Virama: How do you build something properly? I've just started and I don't really get it.

Anyone able to link me to NOOB tutorials (must be text not video) that explain how this game progresses?
You can always talk to the Guide (right click on him) to get some idea of what you can do. Other than that, Hawk52 gave a decent starting point.
If you fear getting lost in this game, then here you go:

There is also a program that generates a map of your randomly generated world:

Sweet this one does look a lot better!
Reinstalled it today and playing it with the HD texture pack .
Question : What are the best mods , maps , etc for the game ( single player ) ?
I played Terraria for 120 hours in the first month after release. It is at the #2 slot in my list of my favorite games of all time, right under Morrowind. I have it installed on every computer I own just in case I get the hankering for some adventuring.

The closest I've come to multiplayer was trying to figure out how to set up a server. Yes, this is as marvelous a singleplayer game as it supposedly is a multiplayer game.
while i did few hours on rps server few months ago 70 hours on my steam is only single player. it is one of my most played games ever (and at the moment it sits on top of my list on steam)

great game, so much time it takes tough. at least on my first playthrough. my recent character (brand new) managed to kill his second boss after only five or six hours of playing.
Terraria TNT cannon mod is fun , but can't play it with the HD texture pack .

The devs should really look into adding peer-to-peer, Steam-friends multiplayer. Having to use servers is a pain in the butt for many of us.
I've played Terraria only in singleplayer and it was awesome. I'm more a builder/miner than mob fighter.

There's a HD texture pack?
I really should buy this game but I think my time to play other games would disappear. They really need a mobile version of this.
Just dropping in to say that I've so far spent some 100+ hours playing Terraria in SP. Yes, it is an awesome game even for us SP-oriented people.
