This is basic PC 101 help I need here so forgive my ignorance.

When you have to be logged onto a site to play a game (ie Diablo 3 or even D2 if you are going MP) does it count against your bandwidth while you are playing? Living in the boondocks I only have a very limited amount afforded to me every month and I'm curious if by being logged on and playing are you in the act of downloading? I don't want to have a few fun hours only to learn my provider has put a throttle on me until the end of the month. Also is your OS any more susceptible to picking up malware or viruses by being logged onto a game site to play?

I ask because I found a halfway good price for a game I've wanted for a long time (and have given up on GOG getting) but it seems you need to log onto the provider to play it. On that notes does anyone know anything about Wild Tangent Games?
yupe for 1st nope for the 2nd
Down- and uploading in fact.
Not insane amounts of data, but of course it does count against your limit.
That's all I need to know. :D

Thank you so much.
A quick Google search turned up a WoW customer service rep claiming it averaged out to about 45MB per hour in data transfer.
You could use something like BitMeter OS to see how much bandwidth you've been using.

I haven't bought anything yet. I'm just asking before I do but any kind of bandwidth usage for a silly SP player game is a bigger pain than I want.
mind you the amount of data usage depend on what game and activity in the game them self. for example in dragon nest for 3 hrs of idly chatting and some solo dungeon stuff, it take 10 mb of date. while for the 10 men raid in 30 minute it take 30 mb. i assume your provider have some kind quick to call number to check how much data left in your packet/quota the do it after you dc in the net.
Having had to put up with capped accounts for several years (in fact I still do) I was always concerned with the amount of bandwidth required to game online. Mostly it depends on the genre : FPS takes loads and the rest not so much :P

I could use up to 50 or so mg an hour with games such as team fortress 2 (iirc) but my days of playing dawn of war online (space marines ftw! greyknights, chaplain, assault terminators : none could stand before me! ) used up almost no bandwidth. Recently I started playing neverwinter nights 2 with a friend and a gaming session of 5 hours or so would use up less than 100mg. Of course a game could also simply have horrid network coding (from what I've heard) and take up far more bandwidth than it needs to.
