You can have as many browsers on your system as you want, tinyE, provided they're OS compatible and that your computer has enough free HDD space (which it should!).

Yes, you can have as many as you want because Internet Explorer will always be there and you will have other browsers as well. I have all three browsers installed on my OS but mostly I use Firefox, just a preference not necessarily the best, Chrome is also very good. Anything is better then Internet Explorer. Despite my rep I still have a trust worthy face which I take advantage of whenever I can. :P

Firefox was always a memory hog whenever I used it, and the quick jump from version 3 to version 29 (or whatever the latest one is) seemed quite silly to me. Chrome I dislike because of the Google part, but then there is SRWare Iron, which is Google Chrome without Google. It does lack automatic updates, but anything that applies to Chrome also applies to Iron.

Be aware though that if the problem was due to addons, it may also appear on both Chrome and Firefox, though both also have the option of disabling them.

As for the browser, I vote for Chrome based solely on personal preference, I use both Chrome and Firefox, it just happens I like Chrome a bit better (it's really lightweight, loads faster than Firefox on my system). Either way, you'll be good with either one of them, they're both insanely better than IE.

There's a Comodo version of Chrome that is like Iron but with some small positive security changes and automatic updates. I've been using it for quite a while now and I'm happy with it. I didn't know until now but there's a Comodo Firefox as well.

That jump came solely because Firefox decided to jump on Chrome's version train of "don't bother with point-releases, make each release a new full version". So after 3.6.18, they jumpeed to 4, to 5, to 6... to 29 now (Chrome is up to 30-something).

Yes, I recall the joke about jealousy being the reason for the updates, though it still is ridiculous. Using FF 3.6, updating to 4.x, have a problem with a website, then being advised to update to FF 6.x, while you wonder when the hell was version 5.x released, and when was it made obsolete.

Firefox has its issues yes and can be a memory hog sometimes but personally I find it better that it does not create multiple process instances, each with their own separate memory allocations. Again not saying Chrome is bad and Firefox is good just providing a reason for why I prefer one over the other. I do use Chrome as well sometimes and regarding the add-ons issue we'll see what tinyE reports after installing one of the two. :)

Redirect some of that basement water to put the flames out ;)

And no worries, most browsers do have their pros and cons, especially with the addition of addons. Each one has their fans, but usual bottom line is to use whatever suits you.

Most shortcuts should also be the same for all browsers as well, so you shouldn't need that much time to familiarize yourself with the new browser.
