Nope the other supports 1066. And I'm more trusting of Gigabyte than Asus.

Dont look at the specs at the bottom of the page but look in the introduction part of the Features:
Introduction
GIGABYTE Technology latest S series motherboards for AMD socket AM2 platform, featuring with two innovative features- Safe and Smart Technologies. The new S series motherboards GA-M61PME-S2; supporting AMD new generation AM2 processor with dual channel DDR2 800MHz high frequency memories, providing reliable and user friendly computing and reaching the maximum system performance easily via personalized software settings. GIGABYTE S series motherboards, the champion's choice for AMD Socket AM2 platform!

Also, further down
Superior Dual channel DDR2 800 Architecture
AMD Athlon64 FX/ 64 X2 achieves the milestone for desktop computing with the CPU-integrated memory controller. This platform supports dual channel DDR2 800 memory architecture with high bandwidth of up to 12.8 GB/s and shorter memory accessing latency thus delivering the greatest memory performance.

and finaly, if you go to that motherboard page on Gigabyte website, you will see the same Intro and memory section plus this at the second point of the features listing at the top of the page:
Supports high performance Dual Channel DDR2 800 memory

As for Asus / Gigabyte, you cant go wrong with those two, personnaly, I prefer Asus :)

That's confusing. Why does it contradict itself? :S
I'd go with the other board but I'm not sure I want to switch chipsets. It's apparently a pain in the arse. Though I'm told if I switch while moving to Win7 there will be no trouble..?

It is an error from NCIX, also, notice they say "Support for 1066" so way, the board may support it but not run at that speed.
As for Chipset changes, it will only be an hassle if you dont format/reinstall your OS.

chautemoc: Gonna go for this motherboard, then finally grab Win7 next week...I was waiting to upgrade so I could still play my games on it. :)

Are you getting the mobo & win 7 at the same time? If so, be sure to go for the OEM version of Win7, way cheaper when bought with qualifying hardware (which a motherboard is)

Maybe. Or about the same time, anyway.
You're limited to one license with OEM, it dies if you switch to a different model of mobo, and don't get MS support. (link)
Upgrade versions are about the same price and are actually full versions, so I'm going with that.

Even if it is called UPGRADE version, remember that you can do a clean install. No need to install Vista then Win 7 :)

Yep, thankfully I found that out.
K, I ended up replacing the mobo with the same model but a newer version (1.3 vs. 1.0). Similar problem: when I boot with 2GB, there's no display, and no beeps at all (not even the usual one beep). Tried switching slots, "new" stick in either slot, etc. Same result. Using the old stick in either slots works but not new one in other or with the other stick. So I guess it's related to the new stick...
Also before I updated the BIOS, it let me clock to 1066mhz. After updating (newest version), it only allows 800. :S

It might be worth checking your board can supply the correct voltage for the new memory OCZ don't always stick to spec.

Both sticks are virtually identical, though.

Manual says 1.8V...sticks are 2.1...
Anyway..I'm just gonna ask OCZ for a different stick or something. I think my mobo doesn't like it for whatever reason...
