cogadh: The "Tofu" parody is the protest.

Darling_Jimmy: The game doesn't appear to be protesting Super Meat Boy. It looks like it is a parody of Super Meat Boy in protest of slaughter houses.

It seems Team Meat would like to be protested. That would certainly explain all the jackassery.
The blog entry details how they set up several fake usernames and complained about their own game on the PETA forums.

Yes, that jackassery. It is a little funny that GOG going offline for 3 days while rebuilding their website earned them the contempt of their most "loyal" customers while Team Meat childishly provoking everyone possible is winning them praise. I quite like our stupid world.

cogadh: "How many Peta members does it take to change a lightbulb?....
None, Peta can't change anything."

This is my new fa-vo-rite PETA joke!
I still prefer the alternate definition for the acronym "PETA": People Eating Tasty Animals.
avatar
Sargon: That was a silly campaign. I can understand the reasoning behind it though.
-People care more about animals that are looked upon as cute than other animals. Let's make fishes look cute!
They should have should have done it another way, insulting the intelligence of children does not help their cause.

I don't think fish that are caught should be a priority in animals rights. They are a more primitive lifeform. They live free until they are caught.
Overfishing however is a major problem. We eat too much fish, we should eat less. Politicians are however too scared of upsetting their voters to listen to what scientists are saying.
I think Peta have become a bit of a liability to their own cause. They have become a joke and everyone just waits to see what crazy stupid thing they are going to do next so we can roll our eyes at it. They are the elephant in the room and have become a bit of a distraction from the issues that we should really be discussing.

Yeah, that one was my old fa-vo-rite.

So they are trawling, well let them have their fun.

They definitely do need some fresh blood up where decisions are made. Even better would be if some other animal rights group could challenge their media monopoly and use them as an antagonist.
It would probably be difficult though as journalists like entertaining and controversial opinions. Thoughtful and challenging opinions? Forget it.

I will admit I find that funny even as a vegetarian.

TheCheese33: I'm not saying that they're wrong, I'm just saying it looks like they're ready to get in a words battle with PETA.
I think they're just having fun. Either way it's misleading to say.

Sargon: What terrorist group have they funded?
They funded the legal defence of a person who fire-bombed a building full of animals.

If you want to get an idea of what PETA are about, Pen & Teller have already covered it in their aptly named show:

Bullshit1 The other two parts are linked to in the suggestions.

More or less what that episode says ,is that to PETA animals are more important than people, so bombs are ok. That's mostly like terrorists isnt it.

I'm thinking about making the game where to earn more score you have to wipe out legions of animals in a brutal hack n slash way. You get bonus points if you increase the endangered species list. Would they have a beef with me ?

Sort of. They also have little regard for animals either as in most of their attack they have killed the very animals they demaded should be released.

'If Mother Nature can't have them, you can't either!'
One point to consider:

I am going blind too... That's on top of being deaf. I will need a guide dog.

When I do get said dog, that dog will be LITERALLY saving my life and mental health. I will be looking after it like my firstborn.

So yea, fuck you PETA.
There is no self evidential ethical basis not to eat animals. If the argument is that taking life to sustain one's self is wrong, then one must point to the actual reason why. This goes for the concept of animal rights as well.

Animals eat other animals, and don't respect the "right" of their prey to be free from suffering. This is the way the biosphere works. This is the way our own bodies are designed as well. We are omnivorous, and the only way that we can sustain a meat free diet healthfully is through vitamin substitution and great personal cost. This is the reason why you don't see "poor" vegans or vegetarians, at least in the US.

In the end. Eat what you want, but PETA needs to realize that their entire argument hinges on pure rhetoric. At it's core it's vacuous and indefensible.

Plus, you know, they're fucking morons.

They certainly condone terrorism when it suits their ends, yes.
