Sargon: I think many people do like to insult and make jokes about animal rights activists because they do feel guilty eating meat, being aware of some of the suffering industrial farm animals have to go through to make their meat.
Not really, it is just PETA. If you have been keeping up with PETA's shenanigans you would understand why the internet hates and makes fun of them
This applies to western nations. In other parts of the civilized world, respect (and probably guilt too) for animals is even lower.

Precisely. PETA mass slaughter domestic pets because of their warped ideals that every animal should be free from 'slavery'. Naturally pets don't fit into their completely batshit insane views so they have to go.

That and the funding of terrorists. Things like that put people off them too.

I must admit that don't know much about what they do. I have mostly read some news articles about some of the publicity stunts they have made. Sure, protesting in the nude for a good cause seems a little silly. You can say what does get the most attention, the cause or the naked girls?
But silly stunts like that often works, just think of what GOG did. It was much worse, it has damaged the trust between GOG and the customers. We don't know to what degree, but even with the damage done it might have been successful sales-wise in the long run.

If they have done silly illegal things like breaking in and releasing farm animals they deserve some ridicule. I hope they will refrain from such in the future. We need serious animal rights activists not rebellious teenagers.

This current "flame war" with PETA is a prime example of their stupidity. They are protesting a game called "Super Meat Boy" simply because it contains the word "meat" in the name. Never mind the fact that the game itself has nothing to do with meat or the harming of animals.

Then there is their campaign to try and get the world to start calling fish "sea kittens" in an effort to get people to stop eating fish. They seem to think that people won't eat something called a "sea kitten" because kittens are cute. However, if kittens were as delicious as fish can be, I'd be eating one right now.

I also think what Team Meat said about Tofu Boy is true; PETA probably spent more money making that little flash game than Team Meat spent on Super Meat Boy. PETA probably paid an artist and game designers tons of money to replicate Meat Boy; Team Meat only had to pay themselves.
I read a little about them and I can't say I find their strategies very good.

I think that is a nice ideal with some exceptions like dogs, cats and probably some other animals too. Dogs seem to be naturally inclined to dominate or be dominated. In a good family they are a part of the family, I think that is a good thing.
If some people think that all animals yearn to be free they are blinded by their ideology. However if you compare that blind spot to the common (self-chosen) blindness to the suffering we subject animals too I don't have a problem seeing who is the most blind.

I would surely support a ban against keeping birds in cages. There are many other animals that ideally should not be kept as pets but you have to start somewhere and the worst should be targeted first, like the industrial pig and chicken farming industries.

About the slaughtering of pets you mention, to what are you reffering? The wikipedia article said this:

"PETA runs several programs though its Community Animal Project that helps cats and dogs in poorer areas of Virginia, near its headquarters.[65] In 2008 they neutered 7,485 cats, dogs, and rabbits in that area, including pit bulls and feral cats, at a discounted rate or free of charge. They help neglected dogs and cats who are ill and injured, and pursue cruelty cases.
They urge population control through neutering and adoption from shelters, and campaign against organizations such as the American Kennel Club that promote the breeding of purebred strains"

"PETA argues that it would have been better for animals had the institution of breeding them as "pets" never emerged, that the desire to own and receive love from animals is selfish, and that their breeding, sale, and purchase can cause immeasurable suffering. They write that millions of dogs spend their lives chained outside in all weather conditions or locked up in chain-link pens and wire cages in puppy mills, and that even in good homes animals are often not well cared for. They would like to see the population of dogs and cats reduced through spaying and neutering, and for people never to purchase animals from pet shops or breeders, but to adopt them from shelters instead"

Wikipedia says that they support and use euthanasia in some instances. Like for cats with feline AIDS and some other diseases.

"they recommend euthanasia for certain breeds, such as pit bull terriers, and in certain situations for animals in shelters: for example, for those living for long periods in cramped cages."

This is not different from what people in general think.

What terrorist group have they funded?
As a vegetarian i'd wish they'd stop whatever they're doing, roll over and die. They're making us all look bad.
Okay yeah I think i'm getting this game right now just because of this.

Well I don't know anything else than what you said about this, but if they are protesting a game
just because it contains the word meat in it, it is stupid, and they must be doing A LOT of protesting.
If however said game is using it's theme of meat to either applaud, support or propagate the eating of meat I would say it is natural for an organization like PETA to make some kind of response.

That was a silly campaign. I can understand the reasoning behind it though.
-People care more about animals that are looked upon as cute than other animals. Let's make fishes look cute!
They should have should have done it another way, insulting the intelligence of children does not help their cause.

I don't think fish that are caught should be a priority in animals rights. They are a more primitive lifeform. They live free until they are caught.
Overfishing however is a major problem. We eat too much fish, we should eat less. Politicians are however too scared of upsetting their voters to listen to what scientists are saying.

They are protesting too? I poked around the PETA website a bit and I didn't see any mention of that. The game looks like it could be a successful ad campaign, however. Quite unfortunate that tofu is famous for causing breast cancer.

The "Tofu" parody is the protest.
I'd say protest is the wrong word then.

The game doesn't appear to be protesting Super Meat Boy. It looks like it is a parody of Super Meat Boy in protest of slaughter houses.

It seems Team Meat would like to be protested. That would certainly explain all the jackassery.
