I honestly don't think it will change anything. Everyone already has TF2 anyway. (Maybe they're not even aware!)

Who cares about hats, I just want a newb-friendly server where I can practice medicine in peace.
Why not creating a server for premium users ONLY? Auto ban for non-premium users and you will probably avoid any cheaters.

I meant dedicated servers created by gamers, not official servers. It shouldn't be hard, i think. If you really dislike the fact of letting noobs play your favourite game :P

The community is stepping it up with this one. They have already made a mod that kicks any non-premium user out of a server.

Or as I call it, the Oldfag Mod.

I would rather say: "I forgot I was a noob too"
Is this the F2P game they were announcing all around Nothing surprising i guess, since it's been a F2P game for a long time now. Shows what everyone knows by now, that Valve's only priority is not games, but getting everyone in the whole world to install and use Steam. They getting as big as microsoft, where they can pull stunts like this, making a formerly commercial game free, to test the market, since F2P is the big thing nowadays. If it fails, they tried. I suppose the next step is to make a korean/asian only TF2. That rippoff game doesnt count. Myself, since most of the games i bought on steam last special holiday sale either are not currently available and i have to try later, or need some fixing to run, I'll be playing quake fortress and Team Fortress Classic instead..

It's hard to say. The way they were talking about it made it sound like it was some new game (some guessing Dota 2), and it would be a bit disappointing if their F2P project turned out to be something everyone already played years before.

Dota 2 has a lot of hat potential. ;)
I suspect TF2 going F2P is going to be used as a data point for information as to whether Dota 2 will go F2P or not.
I kind of hope that DOTA 2 goes F2P. I'm am awful at those types of games but I would like to give them another try.
starting to like these f2p games especially those with rpg elements, hope you all have already started out with spiral knights, its good will keep me busy till diablo 3 comes out or torchlight 2
Hopped in to play several hours of TF2. That game is still fantastic.
I've stopped playing TF2 since it has become Hat Fortress.
This is another reason not to install it again.
