And we have to start an argument why?
Anyways,
I lean towards evolution, I wont go into what started the process but we evolved over time to what we are. And the process that started it all can be scientifically reproduced. That's all I am saying.

Gundato: And I am still curious as to how this video summed up the arguments against teaching Creationism :p
stonebro: And obviously you come in here to spread some fertilizer. If you can't see it, well, then I guess you're not intelligent enough to see it, or choose to ignore it in order to play devil's advocate. Foolish people have always been confused and / or outraged by intelligent satire.
No, I honestly want to know how that summarizes things perfectly. Does it say anything about why The Theory of Evolution is any more valid than Creationism? Does it examine the political motivations on both sides? Hell, does it even have a point beyond "People who believe in Creationism are crazy and confused"?
Does it even touch on the other side of the debate?
I am just curious. Any time someone says that something sums up a debate, I get interested. But I guess I am just not smart enough to see the details of this. To me, it just looks like the usual soapboxing :p

Navagon: Gundato 'plays devil's advocate' in pretty much every thread they post in. Some might mistake that for trolling. Apologies. I didn't realize I needed to meet a certain quota for pointless agreements. Please, pray tell, how many threads do I need to respond to with "I agree" and "Word, yo" to appease you?

That is the problem with this whole debate as a whole. Whenever one side explains themselves and why they are right, it just turns into a huge soapbox debate. No one can just agree to disagree.

No one said it summarizes the whole debate (another thing you seems to have missed), just that it summarizes the argument against it. I thought that would have blindingly obvious to anyone, based on the content of the cartoon, but I guess not.

I just now watched the vid..and it is pretty bad. It basically sums up the "Christian" view in the most childish and immature manner. But, what do you expect from a site called "Atheistcartoons.com" WOW I BET INTELLECTUAL STUFF COMES OUT OF THERE! -End Sarcasm-

Faithful: If evolution is true then there is no free will, no purpose to your life, and no reason to maintain civility since we would only go around one time, also there is no hope after this life, and no great reason to love anyone but yourself.
It also makes me think where does morality come from and where does music come from if evolution is the basis for everything?
It also makes me think where does morality come from and where does music come from if evolution is the basis for everything?
On the contrary: If evolution is true, there is nothing but free will, you're the one giving purpose to your life and thus giving you reason to love someone else but yourself. I myself incline to the idea of 'nothing' being after death, which forces me to live as I think I should live - and more people I make happy in the process the better.
So tell me, why would one love no one but himself if he believed in evolution? It doesn't make sense to me. If I were to start with the whole scientific approach, evolution would be the thing that makes us selfless, and so-called civilization and humanity is what makes us "evil." (even thou I believe concepts of good and evil to be purely artificial, created by people to describe what is beneficial to a given group and what is not, which would really describe the whole morality issue)
I'm sorry if anything of that came out offensive - I'm kinda sleepy, so if it did, I apologize.

You know that strange laugh that dolphins do? I reckon it's saved for when they think of humans having these kind of debates. I mean no disrespect to either viewpoint, but I often look at certain animals and think that it is quite likely that humans are not the pinnacle of evolution/creation on this planet.
Does anyone remember the game Sim Earth? A game where a god-like being with access to all the parameters (the player) simulated prehistoric Earth conditions to goad evolution into taking place. That was a nice compromise on this debate.
Except that when I played it, the damn lizards always developed sentience before mammals...

That laugh freaks me out every time I hear it...I don't know why. And Sim Earth was one of the BEST Sim games to ever come out IMO.
Oh, and nice avatar. How are you liking Arcanum? It is hard when you screw your character up in the beginning..or choose technology instead of melee or magic.

Arcanum is one of those games I missed out on when it was first released. Having played it for about 10 hours over Easter I am amazed that I didn't discover it sooner, and will be restarting it tomorrow with a new character now that I have gotten the feel of it. Great purchase.
And, yes, I loved Sim Earth at the time. Although it probably predisposed me towards evolution when I was at school; creationism just feels too much like power gaming to me now. ;)

I was so frustrated at first, I couldn't figure out why I was falling down all the time and could attack..almost deleted it...when I figured out it was because of fatigue. Haha.
Creationism=God modding. Ha..Ha...get the joke... I suck at making jokes, I need new writers. LOL.

Gundato: the cartoon is addressing the fact that Christian fundamentalists are the faction that are pushing the teaching of creationism in schools. The cartoon is showing that they're not fighting to have other religious viewpoints taught as well, just their own.
As for your view on evolution as just a 'theory': you're making the same error many other people do in that the usage of the word 'theory' in the scientific community does not have the same meaning as it does to the average joe. It's not meant in the sense that it's a 'guess' or a 'postulation' about what may be. In the scientific community, a Theory is accepted as established fact. The Theory of Evolution is accorded the same weight of fact or truth as the Theory of Gravitation. To dispute the fact of evolution is tantamount to saying you don't believe in gravity either.
