When you said EA sale I thought you meant EA Origin store so I went there and they actually do have a 50% off there so I just got Syndicate 2012 for about 10 dollars - Sweet, so thx for that. :-)

As for games here on GoG - don't worry about your backlog so much! Just buy what you like and know that you will have plenty of time to play them since GoG isn't going anywhere. Buy the quality titles that seems like fun but DO NOT read the reviews here because 90% are coloured by nostalgia.

Stop worrying and start playing, Son! :-)

teshra: 2. What is your best argument, if any, that would convince me to pass on it?
Many of the games lack official expansions, I think at least the following:

Alpha Centauri
Dungeon Keeper
Populous: The Beginning
Magic Carpet
Syndicate
Wing Commander 1-2

I don't know if you care about that though. Certainly those games are great even without expansions, but some of us like to have their games as complete as possible, no matter if we are talking about expansion packs or DLCs.

teshra: 3. Best option would probably actually be to just buy a handful of games - what ones would you *highly* recommend? (No Wing Commander or Sim City as they've not interested me in the past with the slight exception of Privateer),
Those that others have probably already mentioned, and Lands of Lore 3. I seem to be the only person in the world who liked the game (or who felt that Lands of Lore 1 was the least interesting game in the trilogy).
This is the first GOG promo where you can just buy 'em all. Not only are most games excellent by themselves and still fun today. Many are landmarks of videogaming and belong in every collection.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond in this thread. Good advice from you guys, especially those who pointed out regular sales here are 50% off so the main difference with this sale is just 60 cents.

For those interested, I've decided on the following...

Populous 2
Syndicate
Ultima 7 since I never played this series past 6 (4 is my favorite RPG of all time)
Lands of Lore 1+2
Crusader No Remorse - had this game back in the day but don't recall finishing it.

On the fence with Starflight...never heard of this game before but if it plays half as awesome as it sounds, I could get lost in this game. Also, Nox but thats what future GOG sales are for.

Special thanks to mrcrispy83 for the Ultima link...interesting info on that site and made my decision to get U7 easy.

Thanks again to everyone for your input as it was all helpful.
Great choice of games, teshra!

But to be honest, in this case, every choice is a good one. :-)
Another vote for buying any that even remotely tickles your fancy. Soooo many great titles in this sale.
Pah, we'll have none of that pansy talk around here, buddy boy. Buy everything on sale, download and install around two or three of the games, run one of them and stare at the title screen for five minutes then never so much as look at any of those games ever again. That's the GOG way.

Your "GOG way" is a grim and uncompromising place. :(

Yet all but a few inevitably succumb to its allure.

The road to GOG is paved with good intentions.

Take Ultima IX off that list and then we'll talk:)
Well, there are a few oldies that were better on the Amiga than the DOS verisions (Syndicate, Populous, the mid-period Ultimas) so I'm personally skewed against picking them up again here no matter how awesome I think they were because I know I got used to something better way back when. On the opposite end of the time scale I would not wish Ultima 8 and 9's awfulness on anybody.
There's a lot of true classics on though... if I had to pick the best, I'd say Ultimas 7 and Underworld, Dungeon Keeper, and Alpha Centauri have the most longevity. My impression of Nox was higher than that of even Diablo 2, and Magic Carpet was really cool.
Buy them.

Buy them all.
