Since these like nowhere to buy this apart from overpriced second hand copies from eBay and Amazon, would SS2 be considered abandonware. I know Irrational Games are still going strong but its impossible to get a hold of and i really want to play it. Was hoping GoG was gonna get it but its been top of the most wanted list for ages and still nothing.

Thanks in advance.
EA have said themselves that Syndicate and System Shock 2 are games they do not have the rights to sell at the moment, meaning they are probably the ultimate example of abandonware.

Your feelings on that are your own though, really.
I've owned two legit copies of SS2, one for around full price when it came out and another for around 10 bucks. Since then i've lost or broken both discs and i'm not about to pay 50 bucks for an eBay copy.....

The whole system shock rights thing is a major mess, as it actually has two rights holders. EA holds the trademark, while the developers at looking glass studios (nowadays it might just be Warren Spector) has the rights to the actual games. For anything new or old System Shock related to be released both parts needs to agree on it.

No, System Shock is not free or legal to download. Abandonware is not a legal term, it just means that the right holders have stopped supporting & selling the game. Abandonware is still just as illegal as any other form of piracy, although less frowned upon. Is it morally wrong? That is a discussion for another thread.

There are lots of laws that people consider unjust or which no one follows for various reasons....the marijuana ban for example. And how many do you know who follow the jaywalking laws, or the littering laws?

It still doesn't make it not really illegal.

In my opinion following the laws you think are just comes first and foremost, combined with doing no physical harm to your fellow man.

Also it may be illegal but to some it's not immoral. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
