TheCheese33: I'm sorry, but when the first thing you see when you enter the board, right near the top, is a topic titled "Welcome, please read", there's an expectation that the person will actually read it.

Does anyone actually read that kind of post of forums? Its kinda like reading Terms and Conditions or Software License Agreements ;-)
That welcome, please read thread isn't very obvious, and the wishlist is pretty well hidden. Don't see why people get upset or angry about people posting like this on forums, its only to be expected.
Ignore it if you don't like it... you don't HAVE to read every post... and it'll soon drop off the front page if no-one replies.
(its a more interesting and relevant post than certain other ones about members being bitten off or japanese breast bowling for example...)

DarrkPhoenix: One would hope that people would take a minute or so to read the basics, but there will always be some who don't. It's still no reason to be rude or hostile to new members- simply pointing them to the answer to their question or the proper place to voice a desire for some game is all that's required. Injecting hostility does nothing but deter new members from sticking around (both the one who asked the question, and others who are simply taking note of how the community treats new members).
really? I was that hostile? because I didn't mean for it to be, if you read it otherwise, maybe you oughtta relax or something.

lowyhong: I mean, who really RTFM or RTFFAQ IRL?

I do. I almost never start a thread or post ask about help. If I do so, it's after extensive manual/FAQ reading and Google usage. In 99% of all normal cases, the question has been asked before, you just need to find the correct response.

DarrkPhoenix: Simply directing the guy to the wishlist with a brief explanation, as Ralackk and MysterD did, was perfectly sufficient; the kind of hostility exuded by later posts in this thread just really isn't called for.

Agreed. Ralackk and MysterD gave perfectly good responses and the OP got the message. This thread would have been over after four posts. There was no need to make a problem out of it, as certain people did. :-(

Dont see much room for error.

:/
how about if I wrote the post like this:
"You retard! I can't believe you didn't think this was already asked! USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION ASSHOLE! I've never met someone as stupid as you!"
see the difference?

Kind of. Either way I'm amused now. :)

Which means fewer happy customers for GOG
raises hand....i like system shock..
Now on any other forum, necro posting in a year old thread would be frowned upon. Here it is encouraged. Never understood the workings of the GOG forums and I have no intention of seeing that change.

The funny thing is, I sometimes look at these old threads, see my old posts and wonder "gah did I really post this before?"
Mark my words, 1 year later when this thread gets necroed again, I'm going to (un)pleasantly surprise myself when I read my old posts.

That's a part of the issue. Essentially: if people haven't responded to a thread in months, chances are they don't want feedback on it anymore. They may have changed their opinions or simply lost interest. Or it might be they simply don't want anything that makes them look like a n00b brought back to people's attention. :P
That's why, usually, if there's no current thread on the topic it's considered good forum etiquette to post a new thread on the subject you're interested in. That logic seems to have been inverted here. People will insist you revive long dead threads that the OP is no longer interested in receiving replies to. Very odd.

Nobody's forcing you to post a second time though. If others also feel it's an overdone subject then letting the thread die is the best way to communicate that.
