taczillabr: Isn't thaaat bad to be dev. by a B2 team... but we all want something unique for X-COM and Syndicate also, not a generic work.

See the reason i'm actually quite positive about Syndicate is that the game would work as a squad based shooter. In fact it would be brilliant as a 4 player co-op. Also Starbreeze tend to take great care to emulate the source. Just look at the Riddick games which were very faithful to the movies so I am expecting nothing less from Syndicate.
X-Com on the other hand (Or should I say XCOM as they have decided to drop the hyphen!) seems quite clearly based on the existing Bioshock 2 engine. In fact the 2K press release seems to imply that this will just be Bioshock 2 in the XCOM universe. There doesn't seem to be anyway they can honor the original in that game engine. There probably will be research but more in the vein of ME2 where its find gun>bring gun back to base>get gun. Replace Plasmids with Psi powers and thats pretty much what I am expecting.

Yeah, this is what I'm worried.

Navagon: SNES Syndicate was way different to the PC version.

No it's not, I played both, SNES version just has crappier graphics and slightly different level design. Otherwise identical, don't believe me then get DOSBox and try Syndicate for DOS then Syndicate for SNES on an emulator. All it is to me is different maps which were nearly identical in both versions anyway.
I feel anything I add to this would be completely pointless and redundant, so please enjoy my hands randomly mashing keys on the keyboard.

I've completed both. The PC version has larger, more complex maps and a much darker, more adult feel to it. The core gameplay is unchanged, but that's it. The level design is completely different. The missions are different. All graphical elements along with the overall graphical style used throughout the game is different.
Nintendo was still insisting games be made solely for kids at the time Syndicate was released really shows on the SNES version. Especially with the robot cops that look like floating trash cans.
Ultimately, if you want the proper, intended Syndicate experience then the SNES version is probably the worst one to go for. About the only thing it improved on over the PC version was the agent implant graphics. Oh and it was easier to max out all your agents' stimulants in that version. Still, it's unmistakably inferior overall.
EA has just filed three new trademark registrations for Syndicate. It seems that Syndication is imminent.
Those of us that were dismayed by Fallout 3 (and in particular those at NMA) were referred to as "angry internet men" amongst other things.
But people change their tune when it's something they're fond of that is getting altered for the modern mass market...
I watch with sadness, as the genres and innovations of the so-called "golden age" are partially homogenised.
However, with each announcement I look to indie developers, and am often rewarded with new and exciting developments.
So here is the question... is there an indie game with similarities to Syndicate? Or one in development?
Surely someone must want to make a fan-remake, a spin-off or a homage? Is that too much to hope for?

In fairness we have absolutely no info on the actual game itself. I will concede that given Starbreeze's pedigree is in FPS's it doesn't look good but still we don't know for sure. I was open minded about Fallout 3 and in my case I was rewarded. It did the job of selling to a whole new audience and now you have NV on the way with some on the original developers working on it. Initially I was excited about X-Com but then I saw what they were turning it into and now i'm very much an angry internet man about it.

I only know the fan-remake Freesynd, and it seems after a long break it's alive again.

You might want to keep an eye on Introversion's Subversion.

<bad joke>
I didn't know Introversion was making an SCM tool.

Frankly Syndicate doesn't need any remake whatsoever. It's just perfect as it is. EA should invest in new IPs instead.
@DukeNukemForever + @Navagon
Thanks for those, I'll check them out.
I just hope we get either one of the following two situations:
EA's games on GOG (preferred)
or
Free release of Syndicate when they release the new one. (they have previous form with C&C...)
I'm surprised that they aren't making a Syndicate MMO title. Guilds = syndicates and vie against each other for control of the world. Sounds like something a modern game company would try.
