Yay or nay? You decide
I really doubt they will be able to capture the feel of the original games. I suspect the game will wander more towards an FPS with minor squad control.
it will most likely be a bloom-laden, badly optimized console-to-PC port that will besmirch cherished memories...
Well, Starbreeze = darn good
EA = darn bad
Which one will win?
What did everyone think of Syndicate Wars? Personally I could never get into it, despite loving syndicate to death. The jump to 3d lost it most of it's charm.
That said, these days we have the tech and controls to do a decent 3d version of syndicate that might retain the charm of the original.
though in a world of RTSes i'm not sure how well it'd work.
I like Starbreeze's games (where is my Enclave CD's?). I hope this game will be good.

On the contrary, In my opinion Syndicate Wars gave an even more opresive feeling to the whole setting. Not to mention that blowing building and opening deep cratters on the ground was fun.

I won't say that having the game in Starbreeze's hands makes me anymore hopeful, but with some determination, effort and good artists, it's always possible to retain the charm of retro games. Look at what Capcom did with SF4 - I think it's a marvelous job. It's just that these days, a lot of developers are lazy and half assed when it comes to retaining what made the feel of retro games so great

To me it was quite the contrary. I always loved Syndicate Wars, but could never get into the original.
Here's my hoping that if there's a new one it will live up to the classics. :D
I loved both games, from the initial brilliance of the concept, to the 3D virtual cityscapes and destroying buildings in the second.
The idea of making a third fills me with hope, until I think about what might happen. (I'm a pessimist)
I find it hard to believe that they will make a top-down squad strategy game. I wonder if it will be syndicate in name only.
recent remakes and spiritual successors have warned me against hoping too much, for they didn't live up to the expectations that hype built up.

I suspect it will end up being like Rainbow Six: Vegas; an FPS with basic squad control.

If that is the case, I certainly wont be buying it. Others, I'm sure, will welcome such a change.

IMHO Syndicate wars was one of the few sequals that managed transition from 2D to 3D without major screwups and content cuts. I found it in some parts even superior to orginal Syndicate (destructible terrain! More ofthen than not, after mission there was no building standing (memory bit foggy though) and no one was left alive). Only grievance I had with the game was that last few levels were freaking difficult (one mission must have had 100 to 4 ods against me, must have tried it at least 100 times!). I ended up cheating my way tho ending.
If they try to make 3rd sydicate 1st/3rd person sooter, I'll personally go to the development house and rip their black hearts out and feed them back to them before they die. If they try to make an MMO out of it, I'll cook them slowly over fire.
it is however.. a rumor-rang..
