To be honest, I'm a bit surprised that this game became the sleeper hit that it did, and even more surprised that it was relatively well-received by critics. As much as I like the game, it seems to me that it's pretty eclectic - it's a fairly specific sort of game, and flawed enough that you need to be a bit forgiving to enjoy it. I wouldn't have expected a game like that to earn much appreciation.
Not a bad release GOG, but remember we love you for the classics of old. Please don't become just another online download service for new games....please!!!!
This was surprising. Good to see we can get some relatively recent games here too. Been wanting to grab this forever so most surely will. How about the Witcher now :)? (I had to mention it)

hmm, mentioning a game on a site that is run by the same company that made it? A little unorthodox, don't you think?
Kings Bounty is a great game, I really enjoyed it. I loved the turn based combat in it,
I don't care if it isn't really that old compared to most games here. As long as GoG is releasing games DRM free I would much rather buy from them than any of the other digital distribution outlets.

Considering they released Platinum edition (how many editions dose that make now? :-p) just recently, I doubt they release it here within next few months. As I've said before, the best time for GOG Witcher release would be just before Witcher 2 release (about month or so earlier) to promote the sequel. They could even include exlusive withcher 2 trailer at the end of the game or as bonus material to serve as additional advertisement if they aren't already including one with director's cut or platinum editions.

DoraAreGames: Well, Armored Princess is essentially King's Bounty, with all the same bells and whistles, just in a different setting, and you get to play a chick, and eventually get a pet dragon, and a pegasus. I do think it handles troops a bit better, but something about it just isn't quite as weirdly enjoyable as King's Bounty is in its cheesiest moments. If you've played King's Bounty, Armored Princess just feels like "more of the same" despite the different environments. It's not a bad thing if you loved the original, but it makes it hard to really draw a line between the two of them and say that one is better than the other. I guess I would recommend King's Bounty, purely from a personal taste standpoint, but they're both solid.
Armored Princess follows King's Bounty, story-wise, so you could just pick it up farther down the road after you've finished the first, which I promise you will take a long time anyway.

Yeah, and Armoured Princess is alot harder at the start than The Legend, from the 2nd island onwards, till you reach about the mid 20+ levels.

ambient_orange: i know games shouldnt be compared but.. how this game compared to homm3?
Music, sounds, campaign, monster, items, spells do they have something interesting, or they are just bland(overall) ?

- Music is pleasant not of the annoying type.
- Sounds, ok
- Campaign - fun, more of an RPG with HOMM type of combat, you focus more on your hero, levelling up and speccing your skills in 3 talent trees though your class affects what skills are ultimately available in your talent trees.
- Monsters - varied, many and interesting, from plants, elves, orcs, goblins, dwarves, to orgres, dragons, bosses etc.
Army combinations are fun to figure out. Certain combinations gain you a bonus to morale etc. My favourite unit in The Legend was the Dryad. Go figure why lol.
- Items are varied as well, most boost your stats, some boost your army stats. E.g. There's a ring for female troops which greatly enhance all female troops you are using.
- Spells and Rage Abilities are pure awesome, not only are they awesome to look at, but spell combinations are fun to figure out: Sacrifice->Timeback, Hynopsis->Sacrifice, Pain Mirror after getting a huge dmg from the enemy, Phantom->Target, Greasy Mist->Fire Rain etc.......... Which is why I'm a Mage in The Legend and Armoured Princess.
Go get it.

I think it is great to see this game here. For a game that is over two years old and was very well received, why wouldn't we want to see this game here? and DRM free! I love It !!
Keep 'em coming GOG and I'll keep your coffers that much richer.
This is certainly an unusual and surprise release, but it's a nice addition to GoG's catalog. I would much rather buy it from here with no DRM than anywhere else.
This is certainly a pleasant surprise. I probably won't be getting this version myself until a sale as I already have the CD version, but it's still very nice to see it on here. For those unfamiliar with this game it would be more accurate to call it a turn-based tactical game rather than a strategy game, as the majority of the gameplay is mainly tactical in nature, with the strategy element being the allocation of your character's skills, along with troop and artifact selection, although it all comes together quite well as these minor strategic elements all support the various tactics one can choose to employ (and there are lots of fun ones to choose from). Overall a highly recommended game.

barjed: I'm thinking about buying this but would you guys recommend this or the Armored Princess instead (I understand that AP is standalone)? I definitely won't have time or money for both :D
Thanks!

I'd recommend going with The Legend first. Both games offer similar amounts of content, but while I personally liked the gameplay mechanics of Armored Princess a bit more the game has a very steep learning curve with the difficulty ramping up quite rapidly, while with The Legend the difficulty progresses at a much more gradual pace. If you're a veteran of strategy and tactical games then this might not be an issue, but if you're fairly new to the genre then the difficulty in Armored Princess might detract a bit from your enjoyment of it until you've gotten used to the game mechanics.
Oh wow, this is a great release, I love this game! It's sure as hell not old, but at least you guys admit it. this time. :D
Any chance of getting the original too? I'll confess the original is one of my very favorite PC games from childhood.
Anyhow, this game is great, I already have it from another digital distributor, but I am tempted to pick it up here too just to have it in my gog collection. All strategy gamers should play this one!
Great release. Too bad I've already bought both this and its expansion several times online (from GamersGate and Steam).

Lazy2Log: You have no castle therefore you ave no economy in term of gathering resources from mines. However you have money and three kinds of crystals (used for gaining and upgrading abilities)....

Thanks for very informative post..so this game is more like a disciples2 right? And this game is worth buying? :)

Yes, it's well worth buying but no, it's not like Disciples. The movement on the map is real
time, only the fight is turn based. And it is more like tactical than strategic. Btw. I like it more than HoMM since the original King's Bounty was my favourite game on the old Commodore 64.
A bit of a shame that they haven't announced the original DOS release, but this game is fantastic enough on its own. Makes me almost wish that I didn't already own a copy, just so I could buy it here instead.
