Would anyone think that Far Cry would be better priced at 5.99$?

deoren: Thanks, I've bookmarked that link. Great interview!

Thanks. :)

Not me.

It would probably sell more, and would also compete on a pure price point with eBay, Half.com, Amazon.com and others, but there are benefits to paying a higher price here:
* Support
* DRM-free (you don't have to fetch a nocd crack)
* One installer vs 5 cds
* Ability to download it again in the future
I have the retail copy I ordered from Amazon or eBay a year or so ago, but I'll be buying it again here once I have more spending $.
Edit: Bummer, no BB code list support. :(

Wouldnt those benefits you list be there at a 5.99$ pricepoint as well? It would inmediately draw thousands if not more buys from people around the globe. I dont see why they have to keep "popular" "big name" games at the 9.99$ pricepoint.

True, but I posted from a "It's $9.99 here or $x.xx elsewhere", without consideration of the pricing being changed. While I think $5.99 would sell more, Ubisoft is likely the one dictating the pricing here.

yeah probably, I'd like to know whats the criteria for giving either the 5.99 or the 9.99 pricepoint on every game.
has anyone bought this game yet?
any trouble running with full settings?
how does the multiplayer work?
I want to know, if my answers are answered correctly, I will buy Farcry on GOG.com.. otherwise I'm sticking with my shitty ass steam release.

Haven't had any problems with this version so far. Full graphics and it runs fine, but I haven't tried the multiplayer yet (or ever).

Why not? Thats one of the most important reasons i would like to buy this game. Is the multiplayer working?

yes, and does it require ubisoft.com registration? if it does, does it open fifty bajillion firefox tabs when you hit register? And by full graphics, make sure you check off shadow quality very high, water quality, ultra high, and lighting quality very high.. and have the rest of the settings maxed too.

Everything is set to very/ultra high on everything, and corpse time is set to 999.
The reason to that I've not tried multiplayer yet, is because I only played for about an hour, between midnight and 01:00. It's now 07:47, and I'm sitting at work writing this reply.
EDIT:
Oh, and anisotropic filtering is on the highest setting, AA was set to 2, but it goes to 4/8 or something. The reason to that I did not have that on full, was that I apparently clicked wrong in the configuration utility, and couldn't be bothered to change after I started the game. Oh, and I'm at 1280x1024 resolution (highest my monitor can support).

I'm running 1600x900 (highest my monitor can support) and when I try to run it on all high settings, it hangs for far too long for my impatient fingers, on the startup splash, does this also happen to you?

Yes. The loading times are rather long as well.
EDIT:
But ingame it runs smoothly.

Damn, you guys probably have pretty powerful cards to run Far Cry at the absolute maximum, i mean, the game's old i know, but still it needs a pretty powerful rig to go to the absolute highest settings.
"[...] what the fuss was all about back in 2004".
Trying to make it sound old ? Doesn't work ;-)
Good release, though.
