Well, releasing add-ons/tweak/rebalancing as stand-alone games is the standard modus operandi of all fighting game developers...
Which begs the question: why an all-new title, and not just a range of DLC? Ono says the changes are so extensive that they couldn't just be tacked on, so a disc release was necessary.

You know, this reminds me of the whole L4D2 ordeal.
Except with L4D2 you don't get a bonus for owning both and it's full priced.

sounds like a good deal, I'm glad they have the consumer in mind, and I don't think it'll be $40 for the pc title, maybe $30, $25?

Maybe, but I think this will split the online base, because some may still want to play with the original Street Fighter IV rule set. I heard they're going into the mechanics and tweaking things about the other characters. If they have all characters unlocked from the get-go for this version, then I'd be happy to get it, as I hate playing the Arcade Mode over and over without fighting real people. Fighting real people is what makes fighting games so fun.

Yeah, but it's not like you could "patch" the arcade versions back in the day. Also, it appears the only use Capcom has for DLC is charging us for alternate costumes, something that should be in the damn game without a purchase. And what if they want us to buy them again because it's "different"?
Hmm.... I know that many hate DLC, but this is what I would consider one of the best arguments in its favor.

Couldn't have said it better. They really need to work out the right way to do things...
It sounds like less of an addon than The Lost & Damned was for GTA4, surely they could have coded in an option to select the rule set prior to a match and adding characters would probably have been an option built into the game from the start

To PC gamers, full priced IS $40. They still don't get it. What kind of drugs are the people at Capcom on? Must be nice to be that crazy...
Meh.. I'll buy it when it gets at least 50% off on steam or another digital distribution system.
While it's true that the Japanese have had this game in arcades since July 2008, announcing a follow-up barely two months after its first worldwide release smacks of blind greed. Their claims that this new content could not be shoehorned in as DLC is a flat-out lie, and yet judging by the comments on various sites some fans are willing and eager to lap it up.
They claim the two versions will work together somehow, so those who never bought the first version or later sold it will need to get a copy in order to lock it onto the new game and unlock special extras that will already be on Super's disc in the first place. This means Capcom will sell more copies to those with the first version while simultaneously selling more copies of the first to those who start at Super. It's like that old idiom, "one hand washes the other", only you replace cooperation with greed and water with dollar bills.
Capcom clearly wants to repeat the same milking strategies they used in the '90s to such great effect; Street Fighter II had no less than seven versions. I think those days may be gone, however; gamers are increasingly expecting changes like this to be done via DLC, and ambitious, expansion-level DLC like the GTA4 episodes helps further reinforce this view. Trivially remixed retail re-releases probably don't work now unless you're EA Sports.
