As our catalog gets bigger and better every week, it's easy to lose track of some of the awesome games that we have to offer. We've been running one day "Gaming Gem" promos for a while now to highlight some classic titles that don't get the love of some of our best-known blockbusters like Baldur's Gate or Duke Nukem 3D. To celebrate summer, for the next two weeks until July 25th, we're going to run a Gaming Gem promo every day, so you can rediscover these lesser-known classics! Grab that plastic toy shovel and dig out gem after gem over the next 18 days. We think every game we're going to be offering on our Summer GOG.com Gem Extravaganza will be an excellent title, and we hope you give them all a try.

If you’re itching for a mature, classic point-and-click adventure game, today is your lucky day! We’d like remind you about a golden gem of adventure games from the era when the genre was almost already forgotten - meet [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_longest_journey]The Longest Journey. The game created by Funcom is not only one of the best adventure titles ever created, it’s a piece of video game art! The 91 out of 100 score on Metacritic is one of many proofs for that. As a young woman, April Ryan, you’ll be switching between two parallel words: Arcadia - the world of fantasy and magic, and Stark - ruled by the strict science and technology. It seems that these two worlds are slowly merging, and April is the only one who help restore the natural order of thing. That’s a truly epic story, with truly epic characters for a truly epic price - today you can grab The Longest Journey for 60% off.

Don’t waste time, grab The Longest Journey for only $3.99 and enjoy one of the best games ever. The promo on this game ends tomorrow, July 20 at 5:59 a.m. EDT (9:59 a.m. GMT). If you already own this title or it’s just not your type of game, be sure to check back tomorrow for another Summer Gem Promo!
I still have the box and CDs for this game. Literally right above me on the shelf. The story was very interesting, but I admit that there was a point where I was stuck. Had no idea about the next step to take. In the end I just left it, lol. Still haven't completed the game. Poor April Ryan, forever trapped in the Limbo of my save file.
Does anyone know if this game runs OK on netbooks?
i heard this got excellent reviews

but the sequel got pretty mediocre reviews....do you guys think GOG will carry the sequel and if its even worth playing?

i have never touched long journey games....but i am interested in it though

I remember playing it many years ago on a very weak desktop (integrated SIS video card, Celeron 400MHz, 64MB Ram). It worked ok, except for shadows and high resolution fmv.

I think it should work on any modern computer, including netbooks.

Very opinionated but the sequel frustrated me greatly. I can't remember much, but it was a tough play after the genius that the first game was. I think its likely that if the sequel had come first it wouldn't have been bad, but since it came after the original is was a big let down. The game is still in my collection. Its probably very worth playing if you can find it cheap. I'll play it again as I obviously can't remember why I didn't like it, but my expectations will also be well lowered.

In my opinion, the sequel has quite an interesting story. Unfortunately, it ends on a cliffhanger. Mind though, Dreamfall is more of an interactive movie than an actual game. It has almost no puzzles (however, the puzzle with the music stones, in my opinion, beats the Rubbery Ducky in terms of difficulty :D), the inventory is limited to like six items, in return we get combat and hiding in shadows. Seems like Funcom wanted to make a game more appealing to the mass market. :D TLJ was one of the last point&click adventure games. Many players of it (including me) were dissapointed with what the sequel served in termes of gameplay.

In TLJ there is no combat. There is combat in Dreamfall(TLJ2) - it is not only completely out of place, it is also done badly.

I think not, but AS FAR AS I REMEMBER (I bought it on GOG to remind me that ;-)) there is a part when you can die.

Thanks for the advice. Just bought it and it runs perfectly smooth on my Asus eee pc.

I must say I love playing slow-paced, relaxing games like this on a netbook, it feels a bit like a giant gameboy that I can play while laying on the couch :D
Great! I already have a Polish CD version so I didn't want to pay full $10 here but now I'm definitely getting it here. :)

Similar. $3.99 for being lazy and wanting a single installer. I consider it a tip for a great game and consumer friendly distro method ;)
