<i>Today is the last day for our Hidden Gems Summer Extravaganza! To celebrate today's hidden gem, we're adding soundtracks, artworks, wallpapers, and a reference card to [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/independence_war_deluxe]Independence War Deluxe's bonus content. We've also added soundtracks to Independence War 2's bonus materials today. Pick that game up while you're at it for double the rockin' soundtrack awesomeness.

As our catalog gets bigger and better every week, it's easy to lose track of some of the awesome games that we have to offer. We've been running one day "Gaming Gem" promos for a while now to highlight some classic titles that don't get the love of some of our best-known blockbusters like Baldur's Gate or Duke Nukem 3D. We think every game we're going to be offering on our Summer GOG.com Gem Extravaganza will be an excellent title, and we hope you give them all a try.

Dear Smartypants McAdviceColumnist;

I am looking to pursue a career as a commander of an interstellar dreadnought. What should I do to train myself in preparation? I am 12.

--Starstruck

P.S.
What did you do to make your mother hate you so much she named you "Smartypants McAdviceColumnist"?

Dear Starstruck;

The studious youth looking to command a space ship across the interstellar lanes of space is probably doomed to a life of bitter disappointment and alcoholism, but with that proviso in place I would recommend that you investigate sophisticated simulations like such as "Independence War Deluxe". With Newtonian physics and a realistic flight model, this simulation brings a level of realism unseen in the space fighter sim market. As it turns out, controlling a wallowing space turkey armed to the teeth with particle beams is a more complicated endeavor than flying around in your space superiority fighter, and the skills you would learn from this game would prepare you well for your career.

Although horrible little children who mock others' names are more likely to find themselves in dull jobs like "Xeno-Accountant" or "Spacesuit Protein Spill Recovery Expert".

A complex storyline and branching mission structure combine with respectable graphics and a UI that helps make sense of the intricate issues that a space commander would need to balance help even terrible people like you feel in command of their hollow lives or, at least, the simulation.

Basically, I am suggesting that you pick up Independence War Deluxe for just $2.39, as the happy times that you spend pretending that you have a future will soon be eclipsed by the bleak despair of a grey and dull life wasted.

Best of Luck, Starstruck!

keeveek: To anyone else. I am sorry if you are feeling like I am begging for something. I promise I won't do that again, EVER.

I earn less than 200 EUR a month. Half of this goes to rent a room in a flat I live , rest goes for expenses.

Sometimes I have extra 10 EUR for myself.

This time I will try to give something back to the community. I am not sure exactly when this will be in August, but I think I will make something similar, I mean on new promo or release I will search for a guy like me, who hasn't got much money, but loves playing games.

I deleted my previous message mostly because I don't know when I get my money (it's complicated).

I hope you will understand. And I apologize once again.
For what it is worth :
I might not give to beggars myself (we have many problems and "third world beggars" where I live) but I do have understanding for that no matter where we lives we can still have a hard situation. I don't have a lot of money - for where I live, and there are a lot of Indians (from India) that have a lot more money than I have (and a lot of Indians that have less for that matter) and actually I think that most of Western Europe by now is owned by countries, or people from countries, that is/were supposedly poorer than Western Europe.

As far as I am concerned then I think that a lot of eastern europeans (or people living in countries formerly belonging to eastern europe) is having hard living conditions so I have fully understanding for that. (there is a lot about politics and the world that I would like to explain here but can not for one reason or another)
Anyway , "keeveek" , nice that you have some pride but don't let the whole thing get you down. If people wants to give you free games then good for you (and good for them too!!!) so enjoy!!!

Impressive and good on you Skunk.

I'm hoping to get my first GOG gift when GOG has a fit of insanity/generosity on its 5th birthday (or each members 5th birthday) and basically gives everyone a free game of their choice :)

*I can dream*

You sure? It's a great game, it only cost me $2.40 to gift it to you. I don't need anything in return, but don't bother digging around for my wishlist, it's right on my GOGWiki page. You ought to make a page too, the greasemonkey script lets you click on other's names to see their games and wishlist.

I didn't gift it to you because you were begging. I gifted it to you because it's on sale, you're a friend, and you wanted it. Enjoy it, alright? ;)
Yeah, but I don't want to look like a poor guy from the third world. And explaining myself to others is even more embarrasing.

Just consider this conversation as ended, and thank you for your kind words.

Yep. You told me sometime ago you'd want to play Stonekeep, yes? Consider it gifted, as soon as I get my money :-)
The GoG versions of both Independence War games are working fine on my Windows 7 64 bit system. That shouldn't be a reason to miss on of the best space sims of all time.

keeveek: Giveway is still coming, but I'm not sure when exactly. But it is.

I just suddenly lost interest in excusing myself to that dude.
Don't care if you do a give way (though good for you if you do), it was the change from a pleasant / polite response to the rude one that wrankled.
Alright folks, enough about me :P And apologize once again. I think I was spoiled by recent gifts too much, and I've lost control. It won't happen again.

No, I already have Stonekeep.

I've just been meaning to play it. I'm actually playing Shadow of the Colossus right now as it's my friend's favorite game and they've been begging me to get to it forever. I've dropped everything else I've been preoccupied with to play it. :P

Seriously, check out GOGWiki and BarefootMonkey's greasemonkey script. It's awesome. :)

Alright, but I won't object if it's a surprise from my wishlist, or at least a genre I like (hint: I like nearly every genre).

To get things back on topic, I'll just say that Independence War Deluxe is easily worth the asking price, especially today. At least, I thought it was great, and so do most people, judging from the ratings and reviews. I have both games, and I'm thrilled to have gotten new extras for the both of them. GOG has too many great sims, you know that? I only wish I had more time to enjoy them all equally! :)
