Suikoden 2.5 is a fan made freeware game for pc. Currently the first Chapter is available to download with a scheduled 5 Chapters total upon completion. I haven't had the time to try this out or even download it for that matter. Hopefully it is true to the series, as I do not see getting anything from Konami anytime soon; as they don't seem to want to revive too many of their old franchises.

will they ?

so far konami seemed wholly uninterested in most fo their older titles and suikoden has been dead in the water for a while now

Maybe... I know Nintendo and Square Enix would; I don't recall Konami doing it... Then again i have a poor memory on some of this stuff it seems, and i don't listen too much to the news.

What relevance does any of this have with them owning the rights to the name and IP?
That was a good series, Konami had quite a few good games back in the late 80s and 90s. I wonder what happened to them >_> The last title I think I saw was a greatest hits collection =/ Oh wait I think they still have Castlevania series....damn outside of that wtf happened to them =(

fan service

some companies allow a certain amount of leeway as long as you dont sell the fan games
( or mods )

others like nintendo or square wil bring out the ban hamemr so fast it smokes

the question is is konami one or the other

same thing that happend to most japanese developers
inability or unwilling to change

or pandering too much to the western gamers and losing what made them special int he first place and outsourcing their ip's to western developers

sometimes it works ( sega all stars racing ) some times it doesnt ( sonic boom )

Still doesn't have any relevance to the current inactivity of the franchise.

This being said, unless the game is entirely original content and nothing copyrighted is emulated, they may let it pass, but as it so often is, fan service content isn't even fully original. So it all depends on what this fan service game really is.
^ it does

again how much does konami care about a franchise whose last main entry was from 2006 ?

there is still this >> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genso_Suikoden:_Tsumugareshi_Hyakunen_no_Toki

its a measure of how much they care about the ip and if they let it slide or not

however konami has let this slide http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Merry_Gear_Solid:_Secret_Santa

and metal gear is a bigger title for them then suikoden
