Howdy,
I'm pretty much new to the adventure genre, but I'm quickly growing addicted to it.
Namely, thanks to a couple of absolutely fantastic games (A New Beginning and Sam & Max Season 1). Season 2 & 3 were instabuys for me. However, I'd like to exploit the sales (GoG and Steam) while they last. But without buying stuff I'd not like...here are my questions.

Is the Myst series playable by beginners? The gameplay of the Real Myst I've seen on youtube displays that interactive objects are not highlighted/named in any way AND there's a total lack of dialogues (I've grown fond of sidekicks!). Despite this, the game looks quite interesting (I'd buy Real Myst over Masterpiece.), but I really fear to remain stuck every few minutes or so.

Telltale makes absolutely stunning games. Then again, so does Daedalic. So...
Deponia is any similiar to A new Beginning? It surely looks amazing, but so does A Whispered World.

Back to the Future and Tales of Monkey Island are enjoyable to people who have never seen the movies/played the series? Do they've the same humor of Sam & Max?
Last but not least, do you think Monkey Island Special Edition (1+2) are worth 7,50 E or the originals are "better" in any way? Expecially for someone who never played the series?

Lastly, these games have good soundtracks? Both Sam & Max and Beginning had epic scores, the other games can match it in your opinion? (To me music is nearly the most defining part of a game...).
That's a lot of questions, so...a lot of thanks to anyone who will answer!

If you play Myst, you must fight all temptation to read walkthroughs, hints etc. Go into it completely blind and take everything as you see it - do not consult the internet under any circumstances. I personally wouldn't recommend Myst under any circumstances though, really.

I've personally never enjoyed a Daedalic game. In almost all cases the voice acting completely kills it. I'd love to give them another try, maybe you might enjoy them.

Pretty much everything Telltale is great. Back to the Future may not work for somebody who hasn't seen the trilogy, mostly because it's sort of... nostalgic. It's built for fans of the movies. Tales of Monkey Island is nice, but you probably should play the rest of the series (except Escape) first. Sam and Max is amazing and that's enough said about that.

I personally don't enjoy the special editions. I think LucasArts handled them very badly but that's another story. That said, you can actually extract the original game datafiles from them and play them with ScummVM. If you'd like more info on that I'm happy to provide it.

You also forgot about Wadjet Eye in your question. GOG sells a good chunk of the Wadjet catalogue and I wholeheartedly recommend all of them. The Blackwell series is great, Resonance is a total joy to play and Gemini Rue is almost flawless in its execution. I also greatly enjoyed Primordia.

There's plenty others. You've got Beneath a Steel Sky for free in your account already. Follow that up with Broken Sword 1+2 (in the case of 1, do play the original before the Director's Cut), too. Broken Sword 5 is just around the corner which aims to address all the problems we had with 3 and 4.

I haven't played it yet but my sister's been singing praises about The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, so they might be something to look at.

Anyway, I've gone on for a bit. In summary - play every goddamn adventure game out there. If you'd like to know more about any specific adventure games I can try my best to answer any questions you might have. But really? Just go nuts and play as many as you can find.
If you like sidekicks be sure to check Blackwell and Primordia!
If you enjoy complicated plots and puzzles integrated in the world - wait with Myst. It's... strange. Beautyful but strange. On the other hand, if you likie making complicated machines work and like solving riddles - go for it.
Deponia is a comedy, New Beginning is a s-f thriller and Whispered World is a fairytale. Production values are high as always but plot-wise they are pretty different.
Back to the Future - watch the movies or skip the game as it follows movies plot directly.
Monkey Island - buy the series! It's the foundation of modern adventure and it's great (well, you can skip Escape - that one is in many ways inferior). You can buy SEs and play them as the originals.
Also, if you enjoy good horror be sure to check Sanitarium and The Cat Lady.
ou can't continue playing and not try both Special Editions of Monkey Island (The Secret of... and MI 2) on Steam. Those are hilarious and ones of the best adventures ever! ^_^

Look, let me help you:

The Secret Of Monkey Island
Money Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

You may also would like Gemini Rue and The Blackwell Bundle.

TheJoe: I haven't played it yet but my sister's been singing praises about The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, so they might be something to look at.
The Longest Journey - fun if someone enjoys SF and fantasy (although it's not among my all-time favourites).
Dremafall - too much action for my taste.
I haven't gotten around to play A New Beginning yet but Deponia is great, I don't know how they stack up mechanically but Deponia is hilarious with a main character that is an absolute asshole in the most fun way possible. The Whispered World I never had the courage to buy, too many negative reviews, apparently there is too much pixel hunting which is not for me.

In the Special Editions of Monkey Island you can switch back to the original versions with the touch of a button, so they're naturally the best choice.

Also, get Gemini Rue. It's one of the best adventure games I've played. It's considered pretty easy by the veterans of the genre but since I find most adventure games to be driven by moon logic I thought it was great in that regard. You're not going to go around collecting three completely unrelated things to make a lockpick to get through a lock, you're just gonna shoot it, which makes so much sense.

In the meantime, you have never watched Back to the Future?! What do you think you're doing?! GO WATCH IT RIGHT NOW!!!
I'd recommend picking up the Indie Adventure Bundle on sale at the moment. I only recommend it above the Daedalic Bundle because you get a wider variety of games.

The Longest Journey fans migt like Syberia series.
Gabriel Knight series... best stories ever...

Except they broke the 'original mode' of MI2 and managed to make it inferior to the original. Still... it's the only version of 2 sold any more. =(

stick to the newer adventure games, the old ones will probably only make you angry... you might try The Longest Journey or Syberias, but Myst? I don't think it's a good adventure game for beginners...
Amez, enjoy your new quest for adventure games. All the suggestions that have been made are very good \, and I just wanted to add that the Broken Sword series of games are great also.

They did? I wouldn't know, I only played the first special edition.

People are talking about the Longest Journey. I thought that was one full of moon logic but the main character and the world around it made it great.
