Have you tried the men of war games? They're rather unique... terrible voice acting and can be very difficult until you understand all the nuances but also engaging. They come up cheap in the steam sales a lot. I think it's only Men of War & Men of War: Red Tide that are worthwhile.

Edit: There's also the Heart of Iron series but they're grand Strategy games and have a very steep learning curve.

Honestly I would class the Hearts of Iron series as Turn based Strategy games. I know that they run in real time, but the whole presentation of the game from its graphics to its interface is turn based - and whilst some elements can be left to run in real time you'll also have to pause the game often to adjust certain menu driven elements.

Personally I've never got into the Hearts of Iron series (or any others using that same engine). It's a very good engine for what it does, but it is much more heavy turn based inspired than real time.

Nah I agree that I'd class them as Turn Based, just if you like big epic games they're pretty good. Very management heavy though but you feel like something of a god when it goes well and just learning to play the game feels like a real accomplishment.

Odiseuse: well i like all kinds of strategy, all but the predefined, i like the fast paced ones like the old warhammer series and very slow like supcom... and ive tried EE and i found out its too lame :P. ok how about a RTS with huge battle ships in them...bit of sci fi is ok but i like them realistic and also are there new RTS to be released?
the thing is im soo pissed how SUPcom 2 is an epic fail..... thanks

tinyE: Do you like Star Wars? Empire At War is by no means the greatest RTS around but most people agree that it has some of the best RTS space battles AND they are done with correct proportions (somehow that doesn't seem the right word) so talk about BIG ships. Wait till you go after a Star Destroyer with your little pinhead X-Wing fighters!
Great game! Totally not WWII but a super choice.
