Maybe it's because Windows Live = XBOX Live, sort of?
Also, is the game any good as single player at all? Or is a purchase only justified if you plan to play it multiplayer?

No, GFW Live if I recall is free for multiplayer play.

Because I didn't know shit about the game as a total newb to this, I played through the single player first. You have to play through single player to unlock the extra characters.
It's a lot of fun in single player and multiplayer.

If you liked SF2, you'll probably like SF4, and yes you'll need to play through the single player game with all 24 characters in order to unlock "Seth". :)

I love Street Fighter IV! Feel free to add me. There are a lot of better fighters than me, but I can hold my own. I've gotten my ranked match points above 1000 a few times, but they usually fall down in the 600-800 range. My main characters are Rose and Blanka, but I like like to change it up a lot and select from most all the characters.
