I won 3 games and unlocked 39 achievements. Half-life 2, shogun 2 and Test drive unlimited 2. I traded shogun 2 (already owned) for COD modern warfare and TSU2 for Xotic. Got 6 or 7 coupons that I will never use.

I actually liked this contest better then the summer because I actually won some game and was able to trade for something I wanted, other then alien breed 2 and misc. DLC.

I can't complain and am happy at anything free.
You say you can't complain and are happy at anything free...

...But you don't really have a reason to be unhappy. You won 3 AAA games, two of which you were actually able to trade for even better ones.
There's people who won nothing or games that were so cheap (both in price and quality) that they were worth nothing to them.

And it's not about just winning. I think the main reason people are disappointed is the amount of work many put into it trying to win arbitrary achievements to get 7 pieces of coal to win a useless coupon.
Its funny people getting games complaining. ( not saying it happens here) I did about 40 achievements and didnt win anything. During summer one at least I have recieved some dlc and stuff for tf2. To be honest it was a bit crappy contest for me. i have waisted my time and money to recieve useless coupons. I could play good GOG games and not crappy bunch of heroes.
Good that amazon deals allowed me to have some really cheap stuff.

What do Steam achievements get you when there isn't a sale on? They seem like an annoying distraction, so I've been ignoring them so far. Is there a good reason I shouldn't?
Like the Xbox 360 acheivments and PS3 trophies it's mostly for fun and showing off etc'
Sometimes it helps players check out cool features that otherwise might not have been noticed, sometimes it also adds "challanges" and so :)

OMG YOU HAVE SUCH A SMALL E-PEN LOLZORZ!!11
Your right I would probably feel different if I didn't win anything and got all 33 % valve coupons and coal. I did have fun with some of the achievements, like the dawn of war one had a great 6 player match that made me late for work. I also had a tormenting experience with the Christmas Beat hazard and Yet it moves.

I usually do not care for achievements but putting a small chance at winning something kinda made it fun for me, got me out of routine by playing different games then i was, and I bought two games that sold it for me was the sale and the achievements, SPAZ and Bastion.
I've never been on the Steam website before, just went on then and opened up a random game.

I was just curious as to whether they actually achieved anything, it sounds like they don't, but that they may occasionally provide ideas for stuff to do. Though if they need to do that, then the game itself doesn't sound worth playing, after all, isn't the game supposed to give you stuff to do? If you run out of stuff, just play something else....

Heh. Automatic clipping works wonders sometimes.
This is the full version btw, "Cities XL 2012 is the new version of the famous City Builder, which allows you to build, develop and connect together cities of all sizes and types on Cities XL planet. To build your cities, the version 2012 now offers a huge choice of nearly 1.000 buildings and structures and over 60 different constructible, huge, varied and incredibly detailed maps."

It is supposed to be giving you yet another reason to play the game longer.

strange steam games dont start abymore
Yeah there has been some sort of fuck up with the steam cloud thing. Funny, something designed to prevent such a thing from happening IS the cause of the thing not working. Oh well, hopefully it'll get sorted soon.

Edit: Restart steam. THings will work.

So I finally get around to trying out the only game I won that I didn't already own.... And find that all I actually won was a fucking demo. Wasn't that nice of Valve to award me a demo I could have downloaded for free anyway!

So yeah, seriously, the game I won is borked. It's listed in my account as the full game, but is acting as the demo -- can't save until you "unlock the full version", links to the store page to purchase it, etc. both during start-up and when exiting.

And naturally, it has no visible CD key (and for that matter, no way to input one, even if you could see it).

*sigh*

bansama: no visible CD
Have you checked the forum and contacted support (however bad it may be and it is VERY bad ;))?
