I just joined the beta and so far I am pretty impressed. I ordered a 15 ft HDMI cord and a wireless controller and i am hoping in a few days I will have all my controller enabled games running on My big screen TV.. Has any one tried this yet? I looks like any game that is controller enabled that i can run through steam i will be able to play.

I haven't actually ran it through my TV yet so it could look like garbage but i am really excited.
Don't let it replace your console just yet. The beta is a tad glitchy in places and many games don't work with it. And remember that there are shed loads of games that do require some kind of mouse and/or keyboard input when starting the game (many Unity-based games, for example, open up a config window whether you want them to or not, or have a mouse-operated frontend menu for a game that is predominantly joypad controlled. Sleeping Dogs won't work with Big Picture at all for whatever reason.

There are only going to be two companies left soon VALVE Pressuring you until STEAM comes out your asshole AND BETHESDA Edutainment Pavilion and nursing home
I've been playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown through big picture mode on my TV and it's pretty glorious. For games that support controllers, it's just like playing on a console.

You can probably get around this by running Steam in the normal mode and using Windows' own settings to set the TV as the first monitor. Most games will then automatically launch onto that screen by default. If your TV and monitor share a suitable resolution another option is to set the cloned display mode (same image on both screens).

I may be missing something there but... what's is the big news ?

LCD have had VGA or DVI input for years and nowadays most of the graphic cards have HDMI for both audio and video. Not to mention that most games being console ports they also have full controller support.

With a small wireless keyboard (like the Logitech K400 which has a pretty long range), a long HDMI cable and a wireless controller (even though the XBox wireless controller has the reputation of having a lots of issues on Windows) you can play any "PC" games on a TV today, and actually you were able to do that for years now if you wanted to.

I love it.

The new X-Com with a gamepad? Hell yeah! People need to become more open to change.

The last console I owned was a Genesis and I just love it that I can do Gamepad gaming nowadays.

Well Victoria II will probably a bit hard to manage with a pad ... ;-).

An undeserved reputation. Only Ass Creed 2 ever gave me problems. Especially games released on Steam with the "controller tag" are nowadays perfectly playable with it.

And I love it!
