Considering we're looking at another 40-45 games for the daily specials before this is all over, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Torchlight at $5... which would make me kick myself even more for getting at release. Still, great developers, money well spent.
Nothing good in today's specials tbh. I don't buy games on Steam unless it's A) 50% or more off the normal asking price or B) a good indie game that deserves a purchase (Torchlight, Trine, Zeno Clash, and so on).
Already have the Id super pack, ironically it was $69.99 when I bought it, but the dollar was so weak at the time that it ended up costing me about as much then as it would now in my own currency (with the discounts it's 23.79 euros).
I'm certainly not paying 25 euros for Left 4 Dead 2.
Has anybody played Serious Sam HD? Is it any good? I might pick that up if it's REALLY worth the 10 euro asking price.
Hmm... I'm thinking Serious Sam (played one on GCN, but I haven't really given it a fair shot), Jedi Knight Collection, and finally, The Witcher.... been waiting for it to be on sale for a while.
I wish Cryostasis was cheaper, because I really want to give that game a shot.

Don't the Steam Jedi Knights have issues?
A friend of mine gifted me Serious Sam when it was full price but I told him I probably wouldn't return the favor to the same amount since it would inevitably go on sale. I've played it for about two hours -- it's a fun 'pure' FPS game that has fairly vivid and colorful graphics but it's nothing special. Personally I wouldn't pay more than $5 U.S. for it unless you really think you'd like the co-op multiplayer and death match mode they will be adding soon.
Also they are re-doing the Second Encounter within the next six months so it will inevitably be part of a package. So yeah, at $5 I'd say go ahead, at $10 I still think it's not that great of a return on investment compared to other titles that will be showing up over the next week or so.

No music in original ones (theres a way around that, but you have to illegally download a CD with JK music...) and menus run only in window

As far as I know, it's only the sith engine ones. Those being Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight and
Mysteries of the Sith. They rely on a very early version of directx. You may or may not have problems with it. If you do, I think there is fan patch to work around it.
In september I was able to play through the CD releases of those two games on wine. Worked great.
IMHO, the biggest issue with JK and MoTS is that the digital download releases omit the games' CD audio. Just like Quake and Quake2 in the id superpack. :( I'd recommend 'obtaining' the music somewhere and burning a disc for when you play. It really aids the atmosphere.

You just spoke my mind.
Ack. So I got KOTOR but upon trying to start it up, it crashes everytime. I've looked into this a wee bit and basically the whole Steam forum is riddled with threads about how it crashes pretty much at will and it doesn't appear that Steam have done much about it.
Their advice is basically talk to the game developer! lol So, it's £3.50 odd wasted for me, but I wanted to give you a heads up lest anyone else waste money on this!
That is unless you know how to fix stuff like this! In which case, go nuts! :)
The iTunes (old, DRM-heavy style) model for gaming seriously irks me. Steam is a strong platform, but as gamers, we are locking ourselves in and giving Valve far too much control over PC gaming.
Steamworks, including the Steam Cloud, is a great system, but it emulates Apple's FairPlay DRM. Valve will never abandon this DRM model so long as consumers buy into it. Consumer outrage killed FairPlay, but gamers and the gaming media have been anything but critical of Valve. We love the Steam sales, but do not pause to consider the consequences of supporting a model that is inherently distrustful of paying customers.
To borrow a phrase, we are selling the rope with which Valve could hang us. Sure, the short-term benefit is obvious, but it is best for the future of gaming?

I'm confident I'll be able to get them to run, but the CD audio is a problem. If I can get the audio by downloading the discs then it wouldn't be too much of a problem. Guess I'll hold off for now though.

Broken record, give it a rest. Do you really have this uncontrollable urge to read from the manifesto anytime people talk about Steam?

Yes, because it appears that gamers have learned nothing since 2003.

I just completed the CD versions of KOTOR 1 & 2. I had to set the processor affinity to a single core. After that, they worked fine.

Or maybe they just don't consider it a life and death proposition? But I'll let you get back to adjusting your tin-foil hat.
