Actually, it does have one major, massive advantage:
'What if a gift I received in a trade was purchased with a stolen credit card?
In the event of this type of fraud the trade will be reversed and the offending account, not the receiving account, will be locked.'

For the sake of clarifying, the relevant part for 'gifting':
'Redeeming Fraudulent Gifts
Never accept a gift from an unknown user. Any accounts tied to a redeemed gift from a fraudulent source may be suspended.'
