Can't say I see the point of this thing, you need to use the usual payment systems that steam accepts to add funds to the wallet so doesn't look like its not for those people who don't want to give their credit card information to a company on the internet...
I sort of hope they do let you use these as gifts, that'd make it nice & easy to get around their regional discrimination, I buy a $50 card for someone and they use it to gift me a game that costs $90 here

Yeah, thats a bit annoying especially since so many things are priced at something like $9.95 rather than $10 so you've always got small change left.

Oh and cant you open your own account? I mean, does the company you work for offer direct deposit? Also if you want to really screw with her you could change the info on your w4 have them withold all your money (sucks) but at tax time you can get the refund check in your name.....Because only you and the IRS with Leins can change how much is witheld per paycheck..

Rohan15: The money is for, "Auto insurance and car repairs", when I can't legally drive and have no interest in doing so at the time. I know how much my insurance will cost since I'm a guy and therefore a 'shitty driver obviously,' and even though I'm an EXTREMELY frugal spender, she thinks I'll blow it all on video games. Ironically, I rarely have the time to play games and I can't even access the Internet to purchase them, plus I only spent $80 of the $3k I earned during summer break.

Nah. You're sounding like a typical teenager with a bad case of having a parent that need their child maybe a bit to much. Nothing wrong or unique with that.

Once this goes live... how long do you think it'll be before someone puts the maximum amount allowed in to their "Steam Wallet" then gets their account phished and said funds used by the phisher? Valve obviously won't be refunding any such uses...
I give it all of 2 minutes.

You're old enough to get your own debit account and debit card with no problems. Have all your money tick into that and your mother can do jack shit.
If she's using your money, she needs to be smacked. Parents who do that are fucking worthless.

Ultimately, it could be the first sign of Steam Gift Cards (iTunes and Amazon do it, after all). However, I've heard rumblings that microtransactions may appear in the Steamworks arsenal, and this could be paving the way for that.

See that im ok with.
I paid rent based on my gross income from 14 to 16, something like 31% of my income went towards rent, another 10% went to food/water/power. So that had left me with a realistic outlook of how much money I really would have would I was older. Granted I didnt realize that until much later.
So yeah, i was pissed back then, but now, after actually having to pay for those things in the real world after taxes i am thankful i had that treatment.
