You forgot an (important) point.
Steam now support Linux. GOG still don't, sadly.

And this is from someone which buy nothing on Steam and hate it as a DRM itself and a software to rent games. To rent the right to play to a game.

Please, GOG…

I simply wish to compare and contrast, without having something in mind, wanting to prove anything, find or fight the good and evil, or promoting/advertizing. I like facts, arguements and civilized conversations. Let's indulge in it, then!
C'mon. I'm in favor of GOG and DRM-free products, too, but your facts and arguments are heavily biased for someone claiming that they don't want to re-open the old can of worms. Where are the PROs of Steam, the CONs of GOG in the OP?

KiNgBrAdLeY7: The certain thing though i agree steam is superior, and for me it is considered its only plus (at least up to the moment), is the social networking, profile linking, friends and trades (like collectible images from game unlockings).
I think for many people it's also a plus that you can comfortably install and uninstall games without any knowledge of Windows Explorer, the structure of your harddisk or the Control Panel, and that you can access your games and partly your savegames from anywhere. Of course, for others the downside is that you have less control over what is stored where on your harddisk.

One thing I personally appreciate, is that GOG doesn't ask for my personal data if I buy via PayPal and doesn't store it on their servers. I'm probably a bit paranoid in this regard, but this is the reason I haven't bought a single Steam game directly from Steam yet, because I don't want my RL name and address and whatnot stored on their servers. On the other hand, if I lose access to my e-mail account, I'd probably have a hard time proving to GOG that I'm really the owner of my GOG account.

KiNgBrAdLeY7: Your thoughts and opinions, please!
This has been done to death here. No offense meant but I did not read your lengthy pros and cons lists comparing the two. Why? Because we each form our own already and act accordingly. I don't see any purpose really in debating about these points endlessly which usually just ends up in at least some arguing and bad feelings among the discussion participants.

Happy threads guys, happy threads. It's holiday time. Let's just get along.
I disagree with 3 (partly), 7 and 9.

3. Older versions do vanish from the gog site, whether it matters or not. Not everything is updated through separate files. Of course, if you had already downloaded the previous version, no problem. You have the choice of keeping it.

7. I think there are other floating DLC on gog. And I expect more to come.

9. Not all titles have bonuses.

Also,I'd like to point out that gog's big friendly approach is limited (i think that anyone who says 9.99 instead of 10 treats you as an enemy at some level). But, I agree with the OP in general.
GOG: 674 games available, with lots of 15+ year old games that are cool for nostalgia reasons, but hard on the eyes.

Steam: 2463 games available, with a better mix of old and new.

GOG Winter Sale: Force you to buy a 'bundle' to get the full discount.

Steam Winter Sale: Each game is sold with it's own sale price.

Both are good for their own reasons, and both need to exist, but saying GOG is better than Steam is a joke. If I could have only 1 it would be Steam.

If i had to choose between the two it would be GOG. The main reasons are i only have a very old PC and GOG offers a lot of games for exactly that and of course nostalgia. Since i do not have to choose i am happy i can use both. Until now i had no real problem with neither.

Elmofongo: I was just taking StringingVelvet's word that Dark Forces 2 was badly incompatible with modern systems.
Played and finished Steam's Mysteries of the Sith (expansion pack to DF2). The only problem was that I couldn't make the game use 3D acceleration (but if I remember correctly, the only card it worked fine was Voodoo 1). Other than that - it worked just fine.
Most of those Steam points depend more on the developer/publisher rather than Steam, so this is more of a question of what the devs/publishers are willing to shell out for free when some one is not twisting their arm.
Steam... GOG... I'm not a hardcore gamer. I have enough games stored on my HD that I will have yet to touch to last me for the next ten years without having the need (or more accurately: want) to purchase more from either.

I am fine with GOG's approach just as much as I can care less about Steam's client with all of it's bells and whistles. I see it as "whatever floats your boat." Personally, the primary reason I am here is for the games. The extras are nice, but I'm more interested in the games themselves.

This Steam Vs. GOG crap is getting tiresome. Use whatever service(s) that makes you happy. That's my take on it.
I'm not gonna get into the debate. Whenever I see a disclaimer on a thread mentioning "I don't intend to start a flame war", guess exactly what can happen. There is NOT going to be an unbiased discussion when the topic is called VS. You will see sides and the sides will disagree.

"Steam VS GoG. With examples and comparison."
I will buy my games from GoG (or a DD service like it).

I will never buy my games from Steam (or a DD service like it).

I'm all for true freedom of my games over control. If i buy something it belongs to me, if you don't want to give me that then you don't have anything i will ever be interested in buying. It's pretty cut and dry.

gog has GOT to come up with some mechanism for auto-updating games... after what feels like the 100th redownload and reinstall of ring runner, i have repurchased it on steam, because its worth the 8 bucks to save myself the aggravation. ill be frank, it makes me not want to buy anything but "good old games" from gog, stuff unlikely to require constant updates.

in fact, ive gotten to where i dont want to buy hardly ANYthing from gog, because the majority wind up on steam eventually anyway, and the convenience factor far outweighs any other considerations for me.

im not concerned about the "losing my games" either... since, at this point, im buying things twice anyway, id much rather buy on steam first, THEN rebuy on gog in the event steam ever goes poof, or removes the game, or some other such event. id still pay twice like i have in the past, but only in what i consider to be an extremely unlikely circumstance, and should that not occur, i dont have to go to the website and download a new installer every other day.
I LOVE GOG! They respect their customers, they have great support and the community here is great.

BUT....

If it it wasn't for Steam, PC gaming would be dead or on life support. There is no denying that Steam is almost single handily responsible for the resurgence of PC gaming.

It has DRM because without it, most of the publishers would not have their games on Steam. Hell, pirating is the reason that everyone was moving away from PC games and ports. Do I like DRM? No! But Steam's DRM is way better than what has been done in the past.

That said, I will support GOG and pass the word along to all I know. I love cheering for the underdog. (Remember that Steam was an underdog at one time, too.) I hope GOG continues to do what it does best and hopefully in a decade or so, we'll have a bunch of people bitching about how GOG sucks because it took over the PC gaming genre.
I even forgot to ask...

Is it true that steam denies payment through prepaid cards? Last time i saw, it allowed only paysafe and paypal (besides the usual credit cards).
OP, you vs is too one sided and I don't see the point starting yet another holy war.
