This actually isn't a new idea. Kongregate has been adding game card unlocks for games released with badges for at least a year, I think? They even have a game you can play with said cards. Unfortunately, I don't think you get anything else than cards. :(
If anyone does want to try this, I have a few spare invites.
PM me your steam id....

How pro-active ^^

Very interesting though, I wonder how many have already signed up. I guess KF was a shoe-in for this though, they've been part of many promo's in the past.

nijuu: you do a pretty good job as a walking steam advert :p

so we have achievement whores.soon to be steam trading card whores.

Pheace: I'm just a sucker for both trading and collecting so this one in particular tickled the senses :)

Heck, I still have a box of Magic the gathering cards from back in the day.
What do they mean by getting half by playing the games and the other half based on your "collecting prowess?"

How else does one collect the cards other than by playing the games?

And when you do get a card, where does it go? Is it in your inventory or something? I have to confess I am confused about this stuff.
At the moment, you don't even have to play, you can just idle at the main menu.

You only have a limited drop amount of about half the cards required for that game's badge though, so to get more you either need to trade for cards other people have, or buy them off the community market.

I imagine in the long run it'll mostly come down to the community market, or trading off cards from games where you're not really that interested in getting the badge (this option is limited right now but the more games join the easier this will become)
Hmm, I am good at idling. Even I can do it! Maybe I can collect and sell cards. I might like this!
"Borderlands 2 has joined the Trading Card Beta!

We're working with game developers to bring on more games, stay tuned for more info on that. And feel free to tell us in the discussions which games you'd like to see next.

If you're a game developer interested in adding cards, contact your Steam account manager to learn about the tools we've added to make it easy."

Well done.
I think this is the last nail in Gearbox's coffin for my gaming experience.
I have one question:

I understand I need to buy something on steam so my billing info is linked with my account, but what I would love to get clarified is the fact that to receive this cards I have to buy something from the game in matter? like $9.99 worth of DOTA 2 stuff?

I'm kinda confused with this.

Cheers!

For the F2P games, if you hadn't ever spent money on the game before the beta came out then the only way to get card drops is to spend money on the game stores. Every $9 will add another card drop to your game.

You should in no way think of that as a means to get cards though, think of it as a bonus for people buying things in the store anyway.

If you *did* already spend money on the game before the beta then you get 4-5 card drops for free, but that's a one time deal only, and only if you actually spent money on it before.

I see, thanks for the answer, so if I get Don't Starve, and KF gets into the program (wich I bought from the Tripwire Humble Bundle) they should drop this cards? I'm not too skilled at DOTA 2 hehe.
