timppu: Darksiders 2 discouraged me with its oodles of DLCs
avatar
orcishgamer: The 3 dollar season pass includes all of them (or maybe it's the complete edition that's 3 dollars more).
Too bad the Steam description does not say that:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/215824/ (now 50% off, 7.99€ = $10.49)

Save when you pick up the Darksiders II - Season Pass and gain access to these future DLC packs when they become available.

DARKSIDERS II: THE ABYSSAL FORGE PACK
The Shadow Forge is a blight upon the history of the Makers – a dark Forge crafted to harness the unfocused power of the Abyss. For eons it has sat abandoned, sealed off from the tree by the Makers themselves. But the hand of corruption has weakened the seals placed by the Makers, and the way to the Shadow Forge has once again opened.

Your Quest
The Shadow Forge is a construct—a living machine of stone and metal powered by an old and powerful heart stone. When the Makers sealed the Shadow Forge away, they left this living machine to linger in isolation for thousands of years. In time, it has gone mad.
Over those millennia, the Forge has built an army of powerful constructs – beasts not of stone, but of metal. Additionally, some small element of the Abyss has been infused in these form, giving them powers beyond those of a normal construct.
The Forge plans to use the now opened portal on the tree to invade other worlds with his powerful construct army. Death must stop this.

DARKSIDERS II: THE LORD DEMON BELIAL
Death learns of a human survivor on Earth. The story told by the Council was that mankind was wiped out almost immediately after the Apocalypse, but the existence of survivors would change much. If the Third Kingdom has not been completely destroyed, perhaps they can be protected – and War’s name cleared.

Your Quest
Uriel tells Death that her Hellguard have reported seeing survivors, and that she thinks there is some shred of humanity clinging to life. A Hunter he encounters during his trek asks Death if he would free him from his shame – kill the Demon Lord that took his soul, and leave him to die in peace. If Death does this, he agrees to give Death some information on where he might find some humans hiding out…and a confrontation with the Demon Lord.

MAKER ARMOR
Forged by a race of beings that created the Universe itself, the Maker Armor Set is renowned for its ability to withstand punishment from even the fiercest of foes.
So according to that it doesn't include all DLCs. That's what I hate about all this DLC madness, it seems to be hard for anyone (incl. you) to figure out what all the different season passes and super combo packs actually include. Buying the game is getting ridiculously hard, as if I am supposed to educate myself of each of couple dozen micro-DLCs, and try to make up my mind from the extremely vague descriptions which I want and which not.

Sorry if I don't find "DLC research" an interesting hobby.

And what is that? I don't see it listed on Steam page, so apparently it is some US-only thing?

geoconker: I'm willing to buy XCOM, as well, but I have a question: when the game eventually is released in a GOTY version with all DLCs included, will my game update automatically to the GOTY edition?
I very much doubt it.
Another round of meh sales unfortunately, but SOTS: The Pit, KoTOR 2 and Worms aren't bad deals.. I think.

geoconker: SMB never had any kind of DRM, actually. Neither does The Basement Collection and The Binding of Isaac (other Edmund McMillen games). You can buy them on Steam, download them and copy their folders anywhere you like and they'll run just fine without the Steam client.
Good to hear that. Thanks! The price has gone back up to $7.49 though. Oh well, I can still pick it up at $3.74 from GMG if Steam doesn't bring the price back down on the last day.

I'm noticing quite a few games the second and third time they're up for sale being given a lesser discount than at the beginning of the sale. KOTOR 2 is one for sure I know was at 66% off within the first few days.

It's 66% off now too. At least here in the EU. Perhaps the percentages didn't update properly while loading the page, that happens every now and then it seems.
Civ V Gold DLC upgrade
Omerta City of Gangsters + DLC
McPixel
Risen 2 Gold
Sang-Froid - Tales of Werewolves
Shogun 2 Otomo Clan Pack, Saints and Heroes DLC
System Shock 2
Strike Suit Infinity
Tomb Raider Collection
Tropico 4: Vigilante DLC

Maybe look over some of the non-daily stuff but that will probably be it for me this sale :)

Was considering The Pit, but the DLC is still full price and apparently it adds a lot.

Thinking of picking up Sonic Transformer Racers (or whatever it's called =P). Played it a bit on the free weekend they had a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Just happened to forget to buy it then. ;)

Spinorial: I tried the Anniversary demo, liked it quite a bit, actually, but I still want the second opinion, having made similarly undereducated choices in the past.

So, what say ye?
I've played all (including the second reboot now) but Chronicles and Angel of Darkness thus far, and Anniversary most definitely remains as my favorite of the lot, and I don't expect for that to change anytime soon. So if you're only going for one that's the one I'd recommend. It's also one of the best remakes of any game I've played to date. It took what made the first one great and turned it into something even better. :)

After the disappointing start, the sale picked up greatly for me and netted me the games I wanted the most:

AC3
Darsksiders 2
Ace combat
Sonic Generations
Dirt 3
The Walking Dead
Deus EX: HR DLC
Serious Sam 3 DLC.

The real highlight is that I saved almost £10 by selling the steam cards I have had in the past. So not only did I buy great games at (imho) somewhat great prices, I also saved money too by simply playing games. The whole selling and making money thing also made me fall in love with steam after a long, long absence from purchasing directly through it.

Makes sense. CS:GO was listed as 99% off the other day, when in fact it was 66%.

The quality of life in AU is pretty good from what I understand. I was raised by Brits, does that count?

Steam consistently manages to omit items from their descriptions of the DLC packs, it doesn't mean they're not there. It's not exactly ideal, but usually you can google a wiki site with the complete list in about 60 seconds. The reason I don't recall what it's called is because I bought my last gift of it last summer (bought it 2-3 times as a gift and once for myself). I can't be arsed to look it up. At any rate the season pass contains all the actual content, the extra DLC weapons look cool but functionally aren't terribly important.

avatar
orcishgamer: XCOM is amazing, just saying. I would not pass up playing it at that price.
avatar
real.geizterfahr: So... the resident orc is really telling me to prefer XCOM over Of Orcs And Men?

Two hours left for doing something stupid... again! I can clearly see me buying them both *sigh*
Well, as much as I wish Of Orcs and Men was Arcanum levels of epic, it's not, XCOM is actually exceptionally good, though. Play the demo, it's short and representative of the game.

Well it was a couple of hours late but at least an answer! Thanks! (and thanks for nothing, thread :-\)

I bit the bullet and decided to pick it up.Otherwise would probably have had to wait until Hallowe'en, at least, to get it. Truth be told, I think I was sold on it the moment Lara did her handstand-flip ;)
I have Civ 5 with Gods and Kings, is it worth upgrading to the Gold Edition to get all the other DLC?
