amok: I tend to like the random "surprises"

keeveek: We're very different once again :P I maintain my wishlists very carefully, so I don't need to be surprised. I have my shortlist of wanted games long enough (yeah) that I very rarely am left with money to spend and no particular idea how to spend it.

Although I bought some hidden gems on Steam sales before, but it was already years ago. Like Birth of America for 1 EUR.
I don't even have a wishlist, never found any use for them :)

keeveek: This is another part I don't like. They use only AAA and indie games for daily deals. Nothing in between. I remember them doing some extra categories back in the day (not necessarily featured on the front page).

Now it's either front page or browsing through their vast catalogue.
That's true, but while they never put some games on the front page, you can still find those games in their catalogue for 50% - 75% off. Browsing through it seems like little price to pay.

May be a pain if you don't know what you're looking for.

keeveek: Dude, steam sales apart from daily deals are the same shit over and over again. Some of the games I already bought like 4 years ago, and they get the same discount today. So steam lacks "surprises" as well.
Your not wrong there. All the 80% (or higher) off stuff has either been bundled the crap out of (most people will have) or games which aren't very good to start with....Must recommend the Shatter soundtrack however.
There's a few gems in the 75% off and under category tho (quite a few games which have been bundled before too)

Depends what you consider gems.

At a quick glanse at the -75% I can I see games like Civilization, Bioshock, Aztaka, Sacred Gold, Drakensang, Puzzle Quest 2, Eschalon: Book I & II, iBomber Defense, The Maw, The Whispered World, The Void, Machinarium, Defense Grid, Fly'N, Carpe Fulgur Collection...... all these are what I consider gems. And that was a very quick browse.
Anyone played Starseed Pilgrim?

I'm tempted to try it at 55% off but funds are tight and I'd like to hear some positive opinions before I part with the cash.
Ooh might get the community choice next whichever of GTA 4, Portal 2 or Mirror's Edge
I'm a big fan of the first 2 series and Mirror's Edge looks interesting too

Also spotted The Cave and Saints Row 2 for 75% off - this could get expensive!
been holding out on that 75% off on portal 2. I hope that wins the vote.

Cave will probably stay that way, but Saints Row 2 for 75% will disappear in an hour and a half.
Wait, you can vote, get a card for every three votes, and then sell them to crazy people via Steam for free wallet money?

Short answer? Yes.

That's exactly what just happened to me. Good, innit?
Somewhat related question: Is this a complete list?

P.S. Yes, I know Steam is also a drm.

A-ha thanks for the heads up, purchased SR2, although The Cave was already back up to only 50% off, don't know what happened there, ended up checking the whole catalogue and got loads of old stuff for cheap - Original Red Faction, Original Aliens Vs. Predator, Clive Baker's Jerhico and some others

After my spending spree I've ended up with 2 cards marked as common - do they have to be rarer than that to be worth anything?

I don't have anything specific in my Steam wishlist really... but let's say that if e.g. Skyrim Legendary Edition gets well under 10€, let's say 5€, I'll get it. Legendary Edition is fully complete with all DLCs, right?

Maybe also if they offer some "Borderlands 2 Complete" similarly for a few bucks, maybe that too, albeit I am unsure I like the game. I haven't played the first one yet which I have already from earlier sales.

Maybe something else catches my interest too, but I wouldn't be surprised if I don't buy anything from Steam this time.

Oh yeah, and no badge hunting this time either. Didn't do me any good last time either, not even one freebie. I didn't think the virtual badge itself was supposed to be some kind of prize? Sounds more like a badge of shame, "Whee I used this amount of time for useless tasks on Steam daily!".

Neither's going to be that low this sale. Legendary was 40%, that'll probably be it for this sale. Borderlands 2 complete, when it comes out, will be too new for a low sale.

Basically very unrealistic expectations, but that can't be a surprise :)

And yeah, play Borderlands 1 first, it's pretty much the same gameplay, and characters come back in 2 so if you're ever gonna play that it's best to have played 1 anyway. If you don't like 1, don't bother getting 2.
